To think people should be educated on how social media today can prejudice a trial

It's obvious what current case I am referring to.
Mostly when people realise the potential consequences of their gossip and speculation they stop. Some however are unable to for their own simple need for gossip and the self gratification it brings them.

I think it will come to a point when repeated. online gossips should be prosecuted themselves especially if they ignore repeated warnings. I think prosecution is just in that case. Aibu?

I agree broadly but when a news story hits hard as very recent ones have, and the situation is patently obvious, people are going to talk. It's not always speculation, sometimes it's just a shared horror of the situation. It's what humans do, share their emotions with one another. That will never stop, regardless of whether it's in person or via a forum.

I always wonder how Jury's are supposed to be impartial when things are so easily accessible on social media. Especially In very high profile cases.

It is part of the initial jury selection. Also other jury members can report if they feel other members are not open to rational evidence based debate.

I just think it would stop certain trolls and gossips on here. If Mumsnet took a stand and put it into the legal talk guidelines it would soon stop the pathetic armchair detectives.
