To worry about Tik tok trend protests-Schools

Indigoshift · 01/03/2023 16:44

I know school tends have happened for years and years eg ' being tangoed'.

But these school protests are ridiculous.
I know someone posted the other day about a school with ridiculous rules but now it's happening all over the country just because of tik tok trends.

It has happened at my husbands school and today at mine. It was instigated by the lower years it had potential for someone to be crushed on the stairs. Luckily it was dispersed in 5 minutes. Proud that the y11 students told them that they were embarrassing and the school isn't that bad

Where does it end? A protest with nothing to protest about.

We actually do.

We had a big protest in the 80s when the boys were banned from wearing white socks!

There were the YTS school riots in the 80s too.

GoodChat · 02/03/2023 18:25

@Indigoshift yes but they can't video it if they don't have their phones

Thepurplelantern · 02/03/2023 18:28

I went to a university set on many levels with tonnes of steps designed specifically to deal with student riots. I think a few school protests are fine.

IsItThough · 02/03/2023 18:39

In some of the schools I think good on the kids tbh.

Inadequate toilet access, silent corridors, arcane uniform, disciplinarian environments, no sense of being a community. There's a whole generation now of school "leaders" who have forgotten they are there for the children's benefit not the other way round, many with only limited if any classroom experience.

This is not the case at my school. They are just jumping on the trend.

May I suggest teachers learn how to use TikTok?

Most school names if you search videos come up.

My DS said he had seen plans for a huge protest at school that was said to be happening on Tuesday this week. According to the kid who posted (anonymously but comments had actual student names) they had planned on refusing to attend tutor time and "smashing things if needed". One kid asked what they were doing it for as they can use the toilet if really desperate, the girls can wear trousers and they're allowed trainers as long as they're completely black. Poor kid got a mouthful.

It didn't happen as it clearly got spotted. I know their headteacher is on a lot of social media under a different identity, as she remarked to me about a mum who had been abusive to me on a parent group and that she had "dealt with it" and reminded the mods that behaviour like that should result in removal.
DD's had some little scrot spread a nasty rumour that her dad was being racist online. The headteacher got him in her office and made him apologise, whilst saying she knew it was made up as the school follows his account.

Worth looking online if you can

Unfortunately immature adults stuck in the toddler stage of development, who are selfish, can't think for themselves, have no empathy for others, and just follow instructions run our schools, the students have more maturity and I back them, they are being abused by the so called adults in charge who are following woke ideologies not the Nolan principles.

Cherrysherbet · 02/03/2023 19:06

We had a letter home about this. They said that they knew a group of students were planning a protest for later on this week.

Nothing has happened yet, so I’m slightly worried about tomorrow.

My DD is in yr 7. She said she hasn’t heard anything. I’ve told her if anything kicks off, she’s to get out the way as quick as she can. Don’t know what else to do.

I feel sorry for the teachers.

we did this, 50 years ago....

can't even remember why

There were protests about banning the cane in the 70s I believe

I was with you till the woke bit - nothing very woke in insisting on children being silent in the corridor, not being able to use the front door (of their school), getting internal exclusion for patent shoes or because their pencil case isn't clear, or being denied the basic human right of use of sanitation.

SunShineAllMine · 02/03/2023 19:28

History boys covered abusive teachers, and there were protests about physical abuse that Teachers enjoyed handing out, I am sure many long for those days again, so they opt for kidney infections instead of a stick to the kidney administered directly them, they place barriers so the kidney damage is not balmed on them so they evade prison with other child abusers.

Modern day teachers will be ashamed of their sexist ideologies in years to come, and the worst part for me is that women go along with it.

SunShineAllMine · 02/03/2023 19:34

There used to be a word years ago, for people that would suit the woke Teachers and other woke public servants who love to virtue signal their luxury irrational beliefs that hark the vulnerable while they perch on their single sex loo unlike the children.

jobsworth
an official who upholds petty rules even at the expense of humanity or common sense.
"parks abound with jobsworths who delight in yelling that you can't do that without special permission"

SunShineAllMine · 02/03/2023 19:36

well, train and join us, we are desperately holding education together the best we can while the whole edifice crumbles around us, we need more hands, anyone really

train and join us, and show us all how it should be done - we'd be so happy to have another breathing adult on the school premises, you would be very welcome

I wont hold my breath

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/03/2023 19:59

To solve the toilet issue and vaping/fighting/leaving taps on/snogging etc, school toilets need to be built with clear walls.

Toilet cubicles have proper doors, but walls are clear. Problem solved.

SquirrelSoShiny · 01/03/2023 18:11

100% this. I'm tired of people burying their heads in the sand about this. I think the capacity for harm from all SM is totally underestimated but ffs the Chinese don't even allow their own citizens to use it while gleefully causing conflict in other societies. Tiktok is uniquely poisonous because of the grip it has on teenagers.

I think this is a massive cop out to be honest. The problem is the lack of respect for the teachers, for school and for education which is usually the parents fault.

No they don’t.

When l was teaching at an Ofsted outstanding in a naice area, there were so many problems with toilets.

Like the kids who turned on all the taps in every toilet on purpose and caused 1000’s of pounds of damage.

Like the boys who repeatedly pissed all over the floors during lesson time until the boys toilets were akways flooding.

The meeting up with mates in there in lesson times, bullying, fighting.

How would you address the this?

As previous posters have suggested, TikTok needs wider attention, there is a reason why governments across the globe have banned it for ministers, if this brings it to wider attention and conversation around how it actually is, is a very good thing.

For some of the talks I have been involved in, it is always funny hearing teachers go into rants around SM in general and how non of them have Facebook, careful what they post on what they post on twitter Insta etc etc and yet every time almost all of them use TikTok daily on there home network that there childrens phone is also connected to.

I've heard many instances of people using adblock etc because of tracking whilst they happily browse TikTok without any hint of irony.
