Kaylea Titford: aibu not to understand why safeguarding concerns were not raised beforehand?

LumpenProle1 · 01/03/2023 11:16

Lockdown started in March 2020 and the poor girl died in October, in a badly neglected state.

Surely this neglect just didn’t come out of nowhere in 7 months? Surely no one becomes 22 stone in 7 months?

I don’t understand why concerns were not evident in school or at the GP beforehand? It seems this serious neglect was likely to have been evident and it seems strange that someone outside the home did not raise concerns.

Another good reason to keep her locked up.

I’ve decided I’m going to request the sentences be reviewed as I think they are unduly lenient and it was a clear case of unspeakable child cruelty. The starting point for gross negligence manslaughter is 12yrs..how can this be one of the worst cases ever according to experts that see numerous distressing deaths from child abuse and neglect, and the killers end up with sentences of only 6yrs and 7.5yrs?! When animal cruelty carries a sentence of 5yrs? Kaylea was a human being who was deliberately and slowly killed by neglect- caused by cold and calculated cruelty lasting months. Isn’t her life worth more than the prison sentence for beating a dog?

If you feel the same, send an email or call as well
www.gov.uk/ask-crown-court-sentence-review

Thanks for posting this because I'm angry enough to request the same.

I didn't realise until recently Kaylea had siblings living in that house too. One of them found her dead in those conditions? In and out of her room with the smell, flies and her begging for help?

Certainly makes you wonder if there was fear of any of them asking for help or saying anything to anyone. Kayleigh had a phone too but didn't call anyone for help.

Absolutely not blaming her siblings in any way at all but that makes it seem even more sinister than not being able to cope which is what her parents are trying to make out.

I can't imagine the trauma her siblings must be going through seeing their sister like that and knowing that their parents deliberately left her to die. That's even more horrific than I thought it was in the first place.

Five of them apparently - so the obvious question is whether they're being adequately cared for, and if not what's being done about it

Morph22010 · 03/03/2023 16:49

I didn’t realise until the judges summing up that they lived in an adapted which had been adapted for kaylea with her own en-suite she was able to access independently until she became too big for her wheelchair and a new one wasn’t sourced

Morph22010 · 03/03/2023 16:49

Adapted house thst should say

This gets worse and worse. I was reading it all again earlier in horror and wondered that about the phone as well. Did she have anyone to call, did she have the number for school, what about other family members like the grandmother, any neighbours? I just cant understand this.

Yes it seems she couldnt get in and out of her wheelchair due to not being able to fit in it and presumably as she got heavier she couldnt hold herself on her weight with her arms.

In the photos there is a catheter. Would nurses not have been carrying out home visits to attach it/ renew it sporadically?

That's what I thought . Tbh the parents come across as below average intelligence done here was the support and supervision?

The mother was catheter trained.

The judge said in his summing up they were in normal intelligence range although at lower end of normal

So some of the siblings must be school age as well, I dread to think whats happening to them since all this came into the media

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 03/03/2023 17:24

Fucking hell, that is torture, they held her captive and tortured her to death. The sentence is a fucking disgrace.

Did the school raise an alarm when she stopped going? I know it was lockdown but surely her withdrawing from school raised an alarm?

It wasn’t unusual during lockdown thst people kept their vulnerable children off longer as many were worried about them catching covid

You and me both; just the thought of them living among a smell which made experienced professsionals retch is too awful to contemplate

In many ways the family's future arrangements are none of our business, but I really do hope the local SS are all over this

Blinkingheckythump · 03/03/2023 17:48

I can't believe that Kaylea had siblings and not one of them did a thing to help her. And I can't get my head around her having a phone but not calling anyone for help. They are trying to say there were no issues before lock down but surely the parents controlled them all hugely, maybe abused them all, for them to not reach out for help at all ?

Thank you to the pp who posted the link to request the sentences be reviewed. I have done so and hope enough people do for them to actually review it

bellac11 · 03/03/2023 17:51

I think I read that the school did ring to ask where she was but that the mum gave 'excuses', Id love to know what they were, what did she tell them as to why she wasnt going to school.

MohairTortoise · 03/03/2023 18:00

Unimaginably horrific case! I cannot fathom how any of the siblings could live in that house and not be traumatised by what they have witnessed, smelt and heard.
The sentences are ridiculously lenient!

Added to which, the wording on the gravestone feels like a final kick in the teeth to Kaylea. I'm reasonably confident she didn't feel much love from her parents when she needed it the most.

Rest in peace Kaylea. ❤

Authorities have blood on their hands here too.......her parents repeatedly cancelled appointments which in itself is a massive red flag. They pulled her out of school, nobody visited or set eyes on her.

I honestly don't understand how this has been allowed to happen. My ds also has Disabilities, when he was at home during lockdown his teacher made it clear ds and the other dc had to be physically seen on zoom. He didn't say why but it was obvious to me it was because of how vulnerable they are and sadly children and adults with disabilities are at greater risk of abuse.

This. I think that the authorities that monitor children & are responsible for safeguarding should be reviewed & pulled up too.

RIP beautiful girl

Fanofbrianbilston · 03/03/2023 18:17

I hate the media photos that will eternally be shared online, they don't represent her true self and character. They should have only been for the use of professionals and the court.

The mother keeps being described as a professional carer, does this mean she works as a carer?

Yes. She was a community carer. I wouldn’t trust her with a goldfish.

Lougle · 03/03/2023 19:15

It is horrific. The strain on the family was also huge. The dad worked 50 hours per week and the Mum was caring for 6 children as well as working as a carer, if I'm reading reports correctly. They were all let down, most of all Kaylea. Parents shouldn't be able to conceal in that way.
