If you had to undress in front of someone in an emergency would you be ready?

Another one inspired by the emergency thread as this still mortifies me nowGrin last year I was taken to hospital unexpectedly after a car crash. I had to be topless for the ecg, and then someone helped me into a gown after. When I fake tan I usually only do my arms, legs up to the bottom of my bum cheeks, chest to nipple line and neck as that's the only bits that ever show so why would I waste time faffing doing the rest. Her face when she saw my weird tan lines was a real treat. I hadn't shaved my armpits or legs for about 4 weeks (it was winter alright) and I was also wearing the biggest, most unflattering pants you've ever seen as I'd been at the gym

Now I wonder if I should be more prepared for if something like that were to ever happen again. Although I'm sure they've seen it all and much worse before anywayGrin so if something similar happened to you would you be embarrassed or are you always perfectly presented?

Haven't shaved my armpits for...8 or 9 years now. Literally no one cares!

MissMarplesNiece · 01/03/2023 12:49

I passed out and was taken to hospital wearing an ancient black tee shirt with a torn neck and Id wet my knickers while I was unconscious. I felt too ill to care and the hospital staff were busy trying to stabilise me so I can't imagine they were that bothered.

2bazookas · 01/03/2023 12:50

I couldn't care less. If I need emergency medical care I hope the staff will be totally focussed on their job, saving me.

qazxc · 01/03/2023 12:50

I am wearing underwear and it is clean. But that's as far as it goes : It doesn't match, is of the comfy granny knickers and bra variety, I haven't shaved/plucked/waxed. But frankly I wouldn't care and I doubt if they would either.

RosetteNebula · 01/03/2023 12:51

I'm pretty strict about personal grooming so I'm always shaved, moisturized etc and I don't fake tan. I remember not shaving as much during my pregnancy because I was so ill and I was so embarrassed about the extra hair when I had to have an emergency exam even though realistically it was just a bit of stubble and I know body hair is normal and they don't give a shit. But most of us aren't used to stripping in front of others so I don't think this is an unreasonable thing to worry about.

uncertainalice · 01/03/2023 10:12

ha ha this is why my nan always told me to wear my best knickers!

My granny always said this too! She also always had a face of makeup even putting out the bins as “You never know who might see you!” 😂 Different generation, different mentality!
OP I totally got the lighthearted aspect of this thread. Blimey people are so uptight these days! 🙄

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 01/03/2023 12:54

@Roggers I bet a bit of you regrets starting the thread more than you regret not shaving your legs. 🤫🤣

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 01/03/2023 12:54

Haha this makes me think of my Granny telling us to wear nice underwear incase we got hit by a bus 😅

I went for a fertility related appointment once and didn’t know I was going to have an internal scan. I apologised profoundly for my out of hand winter bikini line and the nurse laughed and said she hears that ten times a day and always reassures patients that they are genuinely immune and have seen it all, don’t even really look, etc.

FaceLikeASlappedArse1985 · 01/03/2023 12:54

I was in a car wreck on the way to work one Friday morning (when we did casual Fridays). I was in a rush that morning and grabbed a pair of my scruffiest pants to put on...

After being pumped full of morphine (but still fully conscious) I ended up in resus at the hospital getting my clothes cut off - including my brand new T-shirt which I started crying over when they cut it off... and then crying to the very young and handsome doctor not to look at my pants! According to my mum I just kept repeating it over and over... DON'T LOOK AT MY PANTS!

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2023 12:55

This was on my mind over the pandemic, complicated by the fact I work for the ambulance trust so potentially it will be my colleagues seeing me undress. I also rarely wear underwear under leggings that show VPL so would be mortified if I was having to have all my bits on show! I will make a note to order some underwear that doesn't show under clothes! :) I also worried about the state of my home, in that if I called out an ambulance for any reason they would see my washing up on the side and other clutter, again it wouldn't matter but I work with these people :)

davegrohll · 01/03/2023 12:57

Fucking hell, there is some right miserable twats on here. Op, I found it funny !! I had to get my arse out yesterday for a finger up the bum to check for internal piles, all in front of my 5 month old in the pram 😆
let's hope that isn't her earliest memory 😲

Sorry but I do 🤦🏼‍♀️

WetBandits · 01/03/2023 12:59

I promise you nobody cares.

I've just done a full smear clinic this morning and I couldn’t tell you whether the women had hairy legs, pubic hair, painted toenails or what colour their knickers were.

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 01/03/2023 12:59

@davegrohll that has just made my day 😂😂 I don’t think they form concrete memories until around two so hopefully she’ll be ok 🤞😅

Why on earth do you care that Tragic hasn’t shaved her armpits for years?

davegrohll · 01/03/2023 13:01

@waterlego not that poster personally ! I myself couldn't not shave my armpits for even two days, so therefore, I would care. We're all different

Some serious trauma there otherwise 😆

SunsetsInVenice · 01/03/2023 13:03

I'm always shaved but wonder if it's different for those who are single

waterlego · 01/03/2023 13:03

@davegrohll Ah! It read like you cared what she was doing with her armpit hair!

I’m not single and I shave when I can be bothered but that is rare.

DP calls my hairy legs ‘little pets’ Grin

I really don’t think anyone would think much of fake tan lines, no different to actual tan lines that people have depending on what clothes they were wearing when they caught the sun. And some body hair and underwear. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Its quite sad that if in a real emergency, people are thinking about what they look like or how tidy their house is, rather than solely focusing on the issue at the time. I can’t imagine that to be honest.

This. How many men think of this in an emergency?

Flamingle18 · 01/03/2023 13:08

I fainted at work once (at a hospital) and was taken to a&e. My very senior, male boss walked in unannounced as they were hooking me up to an ecg. I was topless and had massive comfy knickers on but I think he was more embarrassed than me, I felt too ill to care!

TickledCrimson · 01/03/2023 13:11

I used to be a nurse. I remember once, as a student, my mentor and I were doing an ECG on a woman and I suspected she wasn’t wearing a bra. Sure enough she stripped off and got her tits out. As a naive 19 year old, I was a little bit shocked but after a few years I was used to it 🤷‍♀️ Each patient kind of merges into the next really.

MuchTooTired · 01/03/2023 13:14

Meh, if it was an emergency I’m comfortable getting my kit cut off me because I’m relatively clean and groomed. My underwear is mismatched but I’m not bothered by that, I’ve had a whole room load of medics and students watching my elcs with my DTs so my concept of privacy and dignity is long gone now. It’s just my body, I’m proud of its strength over the years and if people want to laugh at it they can crack on!

Precious tan line? This place is absolutely fucking bonkers sometimes. It was clearly a light hearted jokey thread. Obviously at the time I didn't care what I looked like as I'd been through the most traumatic experience of my life and was glad to be alive and breathing. But looking back it makes me laugh at what I looked like. And I clearly said they have seen it all and much worse before

I get it OP! I would care even if nobody else did. I know they’ve seen it all but I’d still prefer to look vaguely “presentable” in these situations.
