Ds has adhd and asd, and has started on medikinet a couple of months ago, I feel really uneasy about it though and in the leaflet the side effects listed are so scary (heart attack and sudden death!? Albeit in the very rare category but still)
it does seem to help him with concentration but he is still on a low dose and increasing every month so maybe not seen the full benefits yet.
I'm really scared of him having it now but I'm also scared of the idea of not giving him medication that could really help him I have no idea how people decide things like this it seems so scary.

@Whatdoesitmatterif all medicines in the UK have gone through rigorous safety testing. If your son has been prescribed this medication, it's because it is considered safe and effective for him.

All medication has side effects. If you buy a package of paracetamol or Ibuprofen and read the side effects list, you will see some scary things listed there under the extremely rare category. In fact paracetamol is dangerous in only very minor overdose. The listings are there in the interest of truthfulness and full disclosure.

If you are still concerned, do speak with your son's doctor - they will be able to answer your questions. Seeing your child on serious medication is always going to be stressful, your feelings are understandable - but deep breath, look for reassurance and carry on.

As an adult who has been recently diagnosed with adhd, my tablets have been life changing and I'm not even up to full dose yet.
