Colleague keeps picking me to go first in meetings, why?

Everyday we have morning stand-up meetings, where we all go around and say what we're working on that day. There's around 10 of us in the meeting, and the project manager who picks who goes when. Every single morning for the last two weeks they have picked me to go first. They seem to think they're doing it at random as they say 'hmm I'll just pick at random, officeee why don't you go first?'

I know it could be a coincidence but everyday for the last two weeks?! I don't know if it's because I'm shy and they think I want to get it over with?

EVERY day? Your workplace sounds like my idea of hell. OK so meetings are a necessary evil when determining a sense of direction on something. Other than that, I find it far less productive talking about work than actually doing it.

Micromanagement is misery for everyone. We had one of these as our last departmental Head; I was never so happy as the day she left.

I'd say "my comment is I've been first ten days in a row, you should pick someone else and I'll go last". Smile sweetly.

I can’t work out why it matters to be honest. It wouldn’t bother me for a nanosecond.

Work is fucking shit innit? Just reading this thread makes me want to dissolve into a puddle of ennui.

Me too. How do people stand this shit?

My old boss used to do this. He was lovely, but could be a bit absent minded, so it wasn't intentional, and he had no idea he was doing it. Everyone else noticed though, so we made a bit of a joke about it. Boss would then switch and someone else would get picked first for a fortnight, until someone joked about the "blatant favouritism". He was a good boss, I miss him.

Yes. I wonder if it's the plague of the ineffectual middle manager who doesn't quite know how to add value, so has to be v busy supervising everyone to within an inch of their lives, while throwing out management speak and regurgitating psych-lite in the workplace. 🤮

I attend at least 2 daily stand ups a day, and the project lead seems to pick me first quite often. But I'm also quite brisk and get my update done with minimal chat, I also don't have a problem saying 'no update from me, still doing what I was doing yesterday' which seems to put other people at ease if they're in that position. I've been drafting the same set of documents for weeks, nothing really changes with my updates anyway!

At least 2??? Bloody hell no wonder people don’t progress from one meeting to the next they don’t have the time!!

Your comment sounds perfect @katmarie .

Go first OP - set the tone as others have said !
