Would reused packaging put you off a food item or draw you in?

Wa product with single use packaging or that is newould you buy jam in jars (not lids) that have been reused (washed and sterilised) and drinks such as apple juice in glass bottles (again, not lids) that have been washed and sterilised?
Also flavoured salts/ oils/ gin/ dried herbs etc in glass jars that have been saved from landfil and washed/ sterilised?

Yabu- this would put me off, I want brand new packaging for food/ drinks

Yanbu- the market needs to shift into REUSED packaging and this change would make me choose this company/ product over a product with single use/ brand new packaging/ recycled or partly recycled packaging.

Vile. I would not use and would tell others to avoid too.

@FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks

Do you ever eat out?

if you d, so you assume all the plates, cutlery, glasses, cups are brand new for each customer?

ever stay overnight in hotels? You'll be alarmed to know the bedding isn't new.

@preserving

it's just as well you're not going into business!

As already explained, it's not possible for companies to do this & if they could it would be ££££££££.

nice dream though

I get my milk delivered in reused bottles and I make jam in reused jars. If sterilised I don't understand the issue and it should be common practise.
I don't think a discount should be offered as margins are thin already.

All things being equal, glass is better for the environment than plastic, assuming similar levels of recycling and reuse.

The reasons companies prefer plastic to glass is purely down to cost.

That's actually not true - but cans are better than either glass or plastic bottles. Glass bottles are only better than plastic if you disregard huge aspects of the supply chain in consumables (i.e. for if you want a water bottle that you fill every day and carry around with you, not for packaging a product you will consume and then needs to be reused/recycled by someone else or elsewhere). So, if it's glass v plastic for something you will be refilling and will remain in your possession then glass is better. If it's glass v plastic for something that will be transported en masse, sold en masse or filled en masse then plastic is better. But, as I said, cans are king.

I would love it. We already get milk, butter and eggs from a local dairy reusing egg cartons and sterilising milk bottles. Butter comes in recycled paper packaging.

Coca Cola used to do this in Bulgaria (where I am from), I am not sure if they still do.
I think it was more to do with the local distribution companies passing on "bottle cost" to shops and bars. And it was for all kinds of soft drinks and beers. When I worked in a restaurant we'd get a delivery and had to return the same number and type of cases of empty bottles and if you are short you get charged for the bottles.

In shops, this same packaging cost was passed on to the customer, but you could return the bottles. So if a bottle of coke cost £1, you can bring your old bottles when buying and you'd be charged only 80p ber bottle for example
