I know it’s not really AIBU but posting here for traffic. Have just booked a Disney world break in 5weeks time. It’s a long time since we went and everything seems to have changed and you now need to book a park?

I know I’m not BU but any help/tips/pointers on what and how I should do it. Have 3 older teens but they are still keen to do everything including seeing characters-and of course-the rides! Which are the best/longest queues etc?

Have you booked the parks yet? If not do ASAP.
Go on the DIBB forum and also the Disney tourist blog website.
How long are you going for, where are you staying etc. if you're going at Easter you need to plan, plan, plan! Read up on Genie plus which has replaced fastpass and is paid.
Are you going to Universal as well or just Disney?
Very jealous!

Thanks-10 days staying at Fort Wilderness in a cabin, as we like the freedom of not being in a hotel. So the genie thing you pay extra for for fast pass? Do you do that on a daily basis?

You don't have to use it every day. You can pay for individually lines. It's well worth doing some research before you go on it. I think there are also still a couple of rides with 'virtual lines'. You will definitely need strategies to get on the big popular rides, Rose of the Resistance, Flight of Passage, guardians of the galaxy etc.

Rise of the Resistance, not Rose!

You need to set up an MDE account if you have not already. You can access your account via an app or via the website. You will be going around Easter I guess, so you need to get onto making park reservations. This is a reservation for the first park you will visit each day, after you have been to the first park, you can hop to another park assuming you have the usual UK tickets.

You need to decide how many days you would like to book for each park, I tend to book more for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios than I would for Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. I don’t really think it makes any difference what day of the week you do each park these days, I generally go for a rotation.

When you open up the app each morning, there will be a very prominent suggestion to purchase Genie+, you are not going to miss it I can assure you. Over Easter, you might want to get onto this quickly (after midnight) as recently they ran out. You can only buy it on the day, but you certainly don’t have to buy it every day, that is up to you.

I don’t understand what you mean by best queues? To me the best queue is a short queue, but I don’t think you will see many of them over Easter. The longest queues will of course be for the most popular rides.

Be aware of virtual queues. At the moment there is just one for Guardians of the Galaxy, by the time you go, Tron is likely to be a virtual queue either as well or instead of Guardians. You need to be very very quick to get into the virtual queue.

As a previous poster said, Disney Tourist Blog and the DIBB forums have all you need to know, just Google to find them and enjoy planning a fabulous trip!

We came back last week - Definitely get genie plus or do lots of early mornings in the park for shorter wait times. Genie plus is expensive so watch YouTubers like Mammoth Club on how to make the most of it. You might not need it everyday but it made a huge difference.

Make sure you've made reservations for the parks and any dining reservations you may want - dining reservations can be made on the day as others overbook/cancel so don't worry if you can't get what you want. Character dining is the nicest way to meet loads of characters at once without queues.

See Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios - this was the highlight of our trip! Also bring your own hand sanitiser, it wasn't readily available and two of our party ended up with stomach bugs but this could happen anywhere with large crowds.
