AIBU to assume I've not progressed to interview?

I applied for a role withing the CS.

It was a 1 job available vacancy so not one of the multi position vacancies.

It said on the advert that the deadline was the 20th, the sift were w/c 20th and interviews were w/c 27th.

However the job deadline was delayed until 22nd due to an error in the job spec and the advert said the dates were subject to change.

I really want this job but its a step up, though I feel like I've got a good experience for it.

Seeing as the advert states interviews are this week, I'm guessing I haven't progressed (gutted but not surprised - thanks imposter syndrome).

However as I've not had a rejection email, nor has my account updated to application unsuccessful, I'm holding out a tiny bit if hope.

Does anyone know if the CS job application system email you for failure to reach interview? If not I can accept the rejection rather than keep getting excited when I get emailed 😂

Just email and ask?

Ignore the ad dates, it ALWAYS runs later. If you’ve not been rejected you’re still in the running.

seaduck · 27/02/2023 20:13

It will email you. In my experience, they rarely run on their schedule. I don't know why they put it on there! Good luck!

Ah fabulous! Thanks for clarifying
I'm already in a different part of the CS and my interviews were exactly bang on the suggested dates in the advert. My boss must of been on the ball with the sift 😅

Thanks all!

The not fit for purpose system automatically emails everyone, whether you've been sifted in or out. Thats one of the few good things about CS recruitment, you always hear!

Everyone is so swamped at the moment, though, that recruiting managers are taking ages to sift, and it is very frustrating. Certainly in my area of the CS, the sift is only done by recruiting managers and HR won't help (!!) so if you are a very busy manager, sifting can take a long time.

Just email and ask?

I already emailed asking about opportunities to put in immediate flexible working requests to cover childcare arrangements, I don't want to risk being identified as a demanding person if I get past the anonymous stage.

Things don't always go to plan. set times for sifts change because of the sifters leave, other commitments, multiple concurrent recruitments or how many applications are received. Your boss isn't "on it" and the other recruiter not. Perhaps your boss is just less busy! I've sifted several hundred applications in the past few weeks and interviewed about 40 people and I've several more days of sifting and interviewing to do! I'm not not " on it" I'm also doing a full time day job!

You seem to be projecting and taking an off hand comment of being on the ball as an offence - which it was not meant to be.

I merely meant my manager agreed to a deadline within the advert and committed and achieved it (despite having incredibly large numbers of applicants and an incredibly busy day job). They predicted and set aside sufficient time to do it and luckily for them it all went to plan. So, as a result, I have no experience in the sifts being delayed - hence asking.

No need to jump down my neck, I fully understand the concept of things not going to plan. And was asking a question 🙄.

Log into civil service jobs and check there - interviews will be offered via the portal I imagine so they will update all applicants at the same time. Good luck!

whatyoulookingfor · 27/02/2023 21:11

Last civil service job I applied for they didn't give me an interview until 5 weeks past when they said they would. Then left it 6 weeks to give the outcome of the interview... By which point I was so pissed off with them I would have told them to poke it had they offered it to me. They gave it to the encumbant... Surprise surprise

My recent experience was:

December 11th Deadline (interviews advertised for following week)
January 23rd interview and offer
Still waiting on HR to organise start

Oh wow. I won't bother worrying for a while then!
Good luck with the new role!
