AIBU to take a break from periods?

Hi all, this is really daft and I am prepared to be told so, but i have noone i can ask IRL.

I'm exhausted by my periods, I'm currently recovering from my latest one and still feeling drained and achey all over. It feels like as soon as I recover from the last one it's nearly time for the next and it seems like not enough of my life is spent feeling "normal," which is getting frustrating. I just want a break!

Would it be unreasonable to ask a GP to prescribe me something to stop them for a while (say a few months) so I can recover? Is that a thing?
Or do they only prescribe contraception long-term? Would they say the side-effects/risks of using it short-term outweigh the benefits? I don't want to waste my GP's time asking about this if it is a service that doesn't exist anyway.

I have never had any kind of hormonal contraception in my life except for the morning after pill a couple of times when I was younger. Noone in my family uses the pill and growing up my mum always told me it would make me fat, give me cancer, etc (also in general they treated periods, contraception, sex, etc as taboo).

I phoned my GP a couple of years ago in thr middle of my period because I was so knackered that I just laid on the sofa feeling like a zombie for 3 days and ended up taking more than the recommended dose of over-the-counter iron supplements to feel better. She said that was normal but offered a blood test to check, however the appointment for the test was a couple of weeks later in the middle of my cycle when I felt fine. She didn't tell me any details of the result (e.g. any numbers), just said the result was satisfactory. I felt like a time-waster.
