To get a Next To Me Forever when I've already got a cot?

Youngest (and sadly final) DC is 6 months and just outgrowing the normal Next To Me (hand me down from older DC). I have a cot that turns into a toddler bed from the older DC that I could move her into and take one side off to side car to my bed. She won't go into her own room until she's about 14 months and I'm back in work unless she sleeps through the night before then as I don't want to get out of bed to feed her for night wakenings.

I've just seen that there's a newish Next to Me Forever that's bigger and for older babies and can convert to a toddler bed too. I think it would be slightly better than the cot as it has a side I could easily put up for naps, and also I like that it's mesh instead of wooden bars so looks cosier.

The Next to Me Forever is £260 which is a lot given I don't absolutely need it. But I feel it would do a better job than what I have. There aren't any second hand near me I think because it's fairly new to the market.

Am I being unreasonable to get one? I'm not on the breadline but obviously the money could go on other stuff.

If anyone's used one (the Forever not the normal Next to Me) how long did your DC last in it? Did you feel like you got your money's worth? Was it a good buy?

No experience but it’s something I’d buy. It looks good.

We very nearly bought this! I would absolutely go for it.

My 2 year old still fits in her regular next to me 😅

NoSuchThingAsMe · 27/02/2023 21:41

Thanks for not thinking I'm being silly!

How is that possible @FoxInSocksSatOnBlocks 😂maybe I should just leave her in the normal one then 😂

She’s only 1st percentile for height! So we certainly got our use out of it 😅

She used it properly until she was 13 months, which was when we discussed next to me forever vs cot bed.

We cosleep now so probably would have been better with a next to me forever!

NoSuchThingAsMe · 27/02/2023 23:40

Oh bless her. Definitely got your money's worth!

This one is my biggest DC yet so I think I need another solution very soon!

My fourteen month old is also still in the original! He was tiny to start but 50th centile now and there’s still room. He seems to like being snug. He’s the first of ours to sleep well so I don’t want to rock the boat! Sounds like something i would buy too though.

NoSuchThingAsMe · 28/02/2023 03:09

Well I might need to rethink moving out of the current one then! The weight limit is 9kg and she's 8.3 now but maybe will settle if she starts moving soon?

I got the Next2Me Forever when my daughter was about 6 months (now 16 months) and it has been a brilliant buy. I'm still breastfeeding about 3x/night and it is so easy to just pull the side down, lift her across for a feed, then put her back and pull the side up. A regular cot sidecarred to the bed would have never worked for us as she would be all over the room from as soon as she was mobile.
The issue with continuing to use the original Next2Me is that, when they start sitting up independently/pulling to stand there is a danger of them falling out, so the higher sides of a proper cot/ Next2Me forever are necessary.

Anyway, it's not perfect but I'm really glad we bought it. The main downsides are the price, the fact that pulling the side up can be a little noisy (although I have managed to do it without waking her plenty of times) and the mattress feels quite hard (although this is good from a SIDS safety perspective). But if the original Next2Me worked well for you, and you'll still be feeding overnight then the Forever will probably suit you well too.

Brilliant, thank you! I think it's worth it if I get ten months of use.

I'm currently away and using a travel cot. It's got a higher setting but it's still knackering my back pulling my baby up over the side multiple times a night so from that alone it sounds worth the money.

Just in case this is useful for anyone else, I did get one and I'm so pleased I did. Makes night feeds really easy and it's great to have such a simple side up/side down system so the cot can be a temporary container when I'm getting ready in the mornings etc.

@NoSuchThingAsMe hi OP, just came across this while looking at the next2me forever and wondered what if you wouldn’t mind sharing how you’re getting on with it? I’m in the same situation; have a cotbed already but would like to keep DD next to me for longer and she’s outgrowing next2me. Annoyed that we didn’t buy this to begin with but didn’t know it existed!

NoSuchThingAsMe · 16/12/2023 13:21

Baby is in own room now but very very pleased I got it, made such a difference for the time it was useful.
