British Airways Holidays - potential disability discrimination

Right, name changed for this. Bear with me, this could be long.
The young student whom I support with multiple SNs and his mother have been treated appallingly by BA and I need some alternative perspectives from those who know more about these things.
Yesterday, they booked a seven night break away. While the booking was going through, several things happened. The screen froze, then seemed to go back on (there were a few compare options open on the BA website), mum (who has a vision impairment which BA already knew about) could not focus well because of all the flickering and completed the booking for what was the only suitable hotel for their disability needs i.e. not on a clifftop. Only after she got the email did she notice that it was the wrong one and for whatever reason, a clifftop resort in the middle of nowhere had been booked instead. She called and called but no reply.
She finally got through today, she mentioned all of the above. The agent was really off, saying that it was her fault, not BAs and saying that she could potentially charge £500 to book the hotel which she actually needed/had wanted all along. In the meantime (you've guessed it) flight price raised by £200 odd quid, the change fee of £100 not negotiable as "charged by the hotel" even though the hotel have confirmed they know nothing about it as BA pre-purchase a block of rooms from them and allocate among paying customers without their input.

Mum was in tears. Ended up being charged over £400 extra in total when it should have been £130 if the booking had gone through properly.
Mum asked to speak to the complaints team but was told by the manager that he wouldn't be putting her call through because she had no basis for a complaint as far as he was concerned.
He also tried to remove the breakfasts which were clearly stated as included (and listed that way on the BA website as well 'because this is not a new booking' but put them back on after she insisted. He also made the point that she should take responsibility as though it were her fault even when she explicitly pointed out their visual disabilities.
I know their ratings are down in the shit but isn't this blatant, unpleasant disability discrimination? It sounds like they could have just charged the difference from the point of sale price but instead forced over £400 extra out of her which makes their holiday more expensive than what it is selling for on their website in general or if they had booked it directly on the Hilton website. What about deliberately refusing to put her through to complaints? She also offered to take a full refund and book with another company but they would have charged her over £500 for that as well.

She's just overpaid on the replacement holiday and now she has no food budget for the week? What on earth have I just read.

Actually, i totally disagree and think this massively sounds like discrimination. She has messed up her booking process as a result of her visual impairment. She has tried to personally book online in the same way as a sighted person would be able to do and then when it has gone wrong they have failed to make adjustments (by amending her booking) for her disability.

Being visually impaired in a sighted world is very difficult and all of the talk over software such as guide or voice over is pretty shit as websites are so busy and text heavy now. BA will know this and just because it is called accessible doesn't actually mean it is accessible to the disabled person actually using it.

Assuming she phoned up on recieving the email confirmation (and therefore realising it was wrong) that totally aounds like something they could and should have assisted her with.

Slightly off-topic, but I agree. I have been trying to spend my Avios for about two years. I even tried to use them for an 'experience' in London. I was about to use them towards a hotel in London, where I was going to pay about £150 and "top-up" with Avios. DH went on a hotel search site and found the same room for about £140, with no Avios needed!!
BA has an utterly hopeless website, with almost no choice of destination or dates. They actually don't want you to spend them, they want you to just abandon the Avios and give up.

I saw on the Nectar points site that you can exchange Avios for Nectar points, so I will look into that.
It is almost as hopeless trying to find something worthwhile to do with the Nectar points, but at least I can spend them in the supermarket or go to a restaurant.

I actually wrote that the £400 plus was set aside for meals for the week they go away as it can be expensive to eat while on holiday in Europe (not a place with cheap fast food options I understand).

I support her child in a professional capacity and although I have come to consider her a kind of friend, I wouldn't know what she was planning for her holidays and I definitely would have supported them if I had known (but I never thought I would be the obvious choice).

I disagree.

She will have adjustments on her personal computer which will help with her vision.

She said she couldn’t see it properly as it was flickering etc which means she took the risk of booking something she wasn’t sure about.

If it was me and I couldn’t see what I was booking then I wouldn’t book it.
I would speak to them over the phone or ask someone else to do it.

I can’t see why they couldn’t have just cancelled it and refunded her though, regardless of disability.

She shouldn't have provided payment details and completed the booking if she wasn't sure what she was actually getting. Wait until there's someone else to help or try again later.

Possession is 9/10 of the law and BA will be way more incentivised to help someone complete a booking in the first place before they have their money. Once they have your money, you're under contract and such contracts rarely favour the buyer.

There is not a disability register. There used to be one decades ago.

Some local authorities keep registers of disabled people in their area. Under Section 29 of the National Assistance Act 1948 local authorities may compile and maintain a register of disabled persons in order to ensure that local services can be tailored to meet their needs.

@Gwen82 I do not know any areas that do this any more. Numbers entitled to disability benefits is used by local authorities to provide information.
