To be so bored of a weekend?

Too skint to do much more than grocery shopping.
No family nearby to visit either. So my weekend will consist of waking up, cup of tea, Tesco shop. Then home to sit in my freezing cold house and to either read or watch Netflix. That's it.
Aibu to feel down about this?

YANBU to be fed up of this, I’m sick of this too, but is there really nothing else you can do for free? Walking or hiking?

SunsetsInVenice · 25/02/2023 18:32

I walk as well to save on petrol money. The fresh air helps but it all feels so dire.
Dread coming back home

What’s your set up? Do you have children, a partner or work in the week? Just to give an idea for suggestions x

Library?

MustDust · 25/02/2023 18:41

YANBU to be utterly fed up, it is depressing, but YABU if you don't take advantage of things you can do. Walk, go geocaching, see a friend, take a £2 bus trip, library, museum or best of all, volunteer somewhere. I get it's bloody miserable at the moment but don't make yourself more so by sitting in the house.

Is there anything in the community you could take part in?some have the keep warm area where you can go and stay warm and meet people.
Or join a local walking group
Do you enjoy cooking?doing some batch cooking or bake some cheap biscuits or scones.
Do voluntary work for an hour or two to get you out.
Go to library
Take up a sport depending on available funds.
Visit a neighbour
Research any available free courses
Learn a new language.
Do some online questionnaires to earn pin money.

Community groups are crying out for volunteers. Is there a food bank, old peoples club or something you could help at.

I've spent the afternoon helping re organise at the local school uniform bank. I'm in Sussex if anyone is looking to volunteer, we'd love a couple more helpers......

Changingplace · 25/02/2023 18:53

I know it’s shit at the minute but what do you have head you that’s free? Round here the museums are free entry, library and choose a book?

Oohoohwee · 25/02/2023 18:54

Are there not any free activities going on locally? I think sometimes once you’re feeling a bit in the doldrums and uninspired it’s easy to stop noticing stuff to get involved in. Although get that this will vary hugely depending on area.

Meetup can be really good, particularly if there’s nothing on you can just start something yourself. There might be other people nearby also craving something more interesting to do! You can also usually find walking groups, pub quiz groups, social groups, all sorts locally.

Are you single? Do you gave DC? I manage a charity shop. .. we have a really fun, relaxed atmosphere on a Saturday ... why not check out some charity shops near you? Volunteers are always appreciated.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 25/02/2023 18:57

Yanbu to feel down at all. I’m sorry.

What type of stuff interests you? How about:

family history research, or local history (at home or at library)

trying new (reasonably cheap) recipes

exploring a specific aspect of nature in your neighbourhood — trees/birds/fossil-hunting? Like, pick a thing to learn about and make a mini project of it in your head

joining volunteer groups

getting on a bus just to kind of see where it goes and then having a walk/coffee at the other end and coming back

Merlott · 25/02/2023 18:58

There are public heated spaces .. ?

Take up a hobby? Do some diy around the house? Start a youtube channel on tips for living frugally?

Ragwort · 25/02/2023 18:58

Another interesting volunteering opportunity is at a local National Trust or English Heritage site.

reddwarfgeek · 25/02/2023 19:01

Sorry you are feeling down. My local library always has lots of free classes going on and they offer hot drinks too, could be worth a look.
