To switch my phone overnight on Sunday night so I don't get a phone call Monday morning

I am a primary supply teacher in my 30’s with no children, I have been on supply for around 2 years. I am currently on a medium-term booking but the school have an Inset Day on Monday and I have been told that I do not need to go in for that day. My agent is trying to find me work for the Monday but as of writing this post has not find me anything for Monday. If they don’t find me any work by Sunday evening, would I be unreasonable switch my phone off overnight and not wake up until 8.30 so that I am possibly not woken up with a phone call early Monday morning. I don’t mind working Monday but I try to avoid early morning calls and I can survive with one days less pay.

Can you email the agent and say as they've not let you know, you've made plans for Monday so won't be available and enjoy the rest

C4tastrophe · 25/02/2023 17:45

Why didn’t you tell them you were taking the day off?

GoodChat · 25/02/2023 17:45

It's fine, or just put it on silent or do not disturb, or just email and say you're not available for work on Monday.

Changingplace · 25/02/2023 17:45

Just tell them you don’t want to work on Monday surely? What’s the point of wasting their time and a schools time thinking you want work when you don’t?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/02/2023 17:47

Surely as a supply teacher you choose when you work?

FuppinNora · 25/02/2023 17:52

I work for an agency - different field, just put your phone on airplane mode 😀 connect to WiFi and you can still use WhatsApp etc. Also you work for an agency so you can Sat whether you want to work or not surely?

Cosyblankets · 25/02/2023 17:53

If you're a supply teacher you work when you want to work. It works both ways they can get rid of you at a moment's notice

Houseplantmad · 25/02/2023 17:55

Fine but at least let them know so they’re not looking for work for you. That would be courteous.

Emmamoo89 · 25/02/2023 17:57

Let them know at least

LBOCS2 · 25/02/2023 17:57

Just send them an email now - if they've not found anything yet, it'll be a last minute placement on Monday morning. You just need to let them know you're not available in that pool of people 🤷🏼‍♀️

JudithHarper · 25/02/2023 18:02

Your phone is there for your benefit and convenience, not everyone elses. If you don't want disturbing, turn the bloody thing off.

savoycabbage · 25/02/2023 18:04

Of course you wouldn't be unreasonable.

In my experience you can tell them that you can't work on a certain day as you are getting married and they will still say 'what time is the ceremony as I've got a school here who only needs cover in the morning'.

Switching the phone off is the only way of stopping them!

Bigmummaof2 · 25/02/2023 18:04

I’d just send them an email and let them know you’re not available. Either that, or just don’t answer the phone. I wouldn’t switch it off though! DND is fine!

BollocksToThem · 25/02/2023 18:07

Why are you making it into a drams. Just email them now and say you're unavailable

bellac11 · 25/02/2023 18:19

What is the purpose of a thread like this. Does someone really need to be told they can turn their phone off?

WorkingFromHomeRocks · 25/02/2023 18:23

You’ll look far more professional if you met them know you’ve decided to take the day off. Bonus of being supply plus they have time to find cover.

Looks like she’s turned it off already and bogged off, maybe the advice worked 😆

GingerAle1 · 25/02/2023 18:31

Honestly, I don't understand the working world anymore

you tell your agent, if there's nothing by x time, you will take Monday off.

They don't look for work for you, do they? They look for supply teachers for the school.

MyMachineAndMe · 25/02/2023 18:36

Does your agency not have an online diary that you can mark yourself as unavailable on?

Mine's rarely ever on on a morning because I hate no notice bookings so the agency run with that and get me as many pre-books as possible. It's fine.
