Options are

A) induce at 39 weeks before consultant goes on holiday
B) wait and see if you go into labour naturally knowing your main doctor will likely be away
C) another chance to be induced at 40 weeks and 5 days when consultant is back

first baby

No way I would agree to an induction unless the baby's health was at significant risk (and then I'd probably request a CS tbh)

I would hang on, but I don't know your full situation.

I had one elective and one emergency section, so not induced, but if I had my time again I would have hung on longer before my elective as my LO wasn't quite ready to be out imo. All anecdotal woo - but just my twopence worth.

The majority of people don’t deliver their own babies. Not sure why that’s relevant

I gave birth with a midwife sitting quietly and watching. The relevance is you don't need a particular person to 'deliver' your baby for you.
