To be scared of this?

My Dad and I are looking for a holiday. His mobility is shot to hell these days, so we're looking for mobility friendly options, and a Caribbean cruise has come up pretty cheaply.

The only problem is that roughly half the cruise is coming back across the Atlantic from the Caribbean to Southampton... Hence it's cheaper.

I'm a wimp about bad sea states. I am not too bad for motion sickness unless it's a catamaran, but I'm fucking terrified of being in a ship in a storm. I think I've watched Titanic and The Perfect Storm WAAAAAY too many times. I like solid ground to appreciate a storm.

Videos of ships flailing in storms makes me feel sick just seeing the green water across the bow or up over portholes or generally visible through tall waves. I'm not helped by DH being in the Navy and droning on about how brilliant storms are and how much he loves wave jumping in boats etc 🤢

So AIBU? If you've done one of these trips, what was it like?

I would be terrified of this too.
Its the thought of being sick but not being able to do anything about it

Could you do a fly / cruise instead, @GetOffTheRoof? You could completely rule out the rough seas element then.

I think it sounds a bit of an extreme journey. There’s surely other options that cater to your dad right? I’d probably go with something else. Cheaper isn’t always better

I just checked online and you’d be at sea for 10 consecutive days right? I would try a shorter period at sea for this holiday to gauge how comfortable it is.

I used to work on cruise ships and have done this crossing OP.

If it's a larger ship, we always recommended people go into the very centre of the ship. We had an ice-rink in the very middle so no windows and was nice and cool. People could just sit in the bar area or even rink side (nothing would be on) and sort of wait it out.

Also the spa will offer some acupressure treatments which might help.

The majority of the staff and crew will have some experience of nervous/seasick guests so will be able to help.

Plus most ships have so much entertainment that you can definitely keep yourself busy
