Apologies for using aibu for traffic..

Im in the west mids, going to see Lizzo in London on a train strike day 😩 any brilliant ideas of how to get around this that im missing?

cant go the day before, coaches make me sick and I could drive but wouldn’t want to do central London 😱

hoping the hive mind can help me, many thanks in advance!

If you won't get on a bus or a coach I don't see what other option you have! Go the day before? Stay a night or two? Pay for a car service/cab?

OneTC · 24/02/2023 16:50

Suck it up and drive.

"Can someone invent a new way if travel please"

Where is she performing?

Is it a weekend? London is surprisingly okay to drive in on weekends... drive to the outskirts near a Tube station? We did that once ...

Ffossip · 24/02/2023 16:51

When is train strike day?

Twinsforthewin · 24/02/2023 16:51

Which day is it? The tube isn't always on strike, you may be able to drive to eg Watford, park, and get the met line in?

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 24/02/2023 16:51

If you set off now you could walk?

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/02/2023 16:51

Drive to the outskirts and get a tube, they’re not striking.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/02/2023 16:52

Drive to the outskirts. Tube in. (assuming tubes are still running)

Snap 😁

Stanmore tube station has a big car park. It's right and the end of the Jubilee line.

NextPrimeMinister · 24/02/2023 17:00

Even striking train companies run a minimal service. Can you find out what the one you'd use is doing. I've travelled into London by train on strike days before.

Drive and use an app (JustPark/Your parking space/parking bee) to find a space on the outskirts of London then take the tube in

Ineedatrain · 24/02/2023 17:02

16th March. Google says tube strike is the 15th…if so @Twinsforthewin i shall probably do this thank you!

You just drive to the outside and get a tube/bus Smile

London is WAY easier to drive into than almost anywhere else in the UK as the average speed is under 4 miles an hour

Pick somewhere like Finsbury/Cricklewood and get the tube

Have a wonderful day

SnowAndFrostOutside · 24/02/2023 17:07

I had that problem with a strike day during christmas new year. I ended up driving to a Zone 6 tube station, park there and took the tube. Look up engineering work too and make sure you pick a tube line that's running on that day of the strike.

This is true, I have zero issue driving into central London as long as I know where I’m parking.

LimeCheesecake · 24/02/2023 17:24

I wouldn’t even bother with parking up in the outskirts and taking the tube to the O2, it’s very easy to reach from the north circular so it’s not like you’ve got to do London back roads to get there. You can prebook parking easily.

there’s a shopping centre at the O2 so I’d aim to arrive early and have a nice afternoon pottering around the shopping centre and have civilised dinner before hand.
