To be terrified for DD?

Posting here for traffic.

DD is 5 months & has had many bugs & scares (stopped breathing once at drs & was blue lighted to a specialist hospital). I say this as I'm aware I have massive health anxiety over her and I'm afraid that maybe it's affecting my judgement.

DD was put on amoxicillin last Weds & finished the course Monday evening. On Monday day she started having some diarrhoea, approx 6 dirty nappies. This has continued throughout the week with her poos being a greenish colour. Yesterday she had some red blood in her nappy, I took her to the dr who said it's a result of the antibiotics, she likely has anal fissures and that as a one off he wasn't concerned. However today she has has blood in every nappy (all of which have been dirty - 4 so far) with one having a lot more blood than the others, I have kept this nappy in case and have phoned the drs. They have told me to phone back at 2pm to try for an emergency appointment.

I'm driving myself crazy while I wait, convincing myself she has something more serious which is where I think the anxiety is coming in. But I was just wondering if anyone has experience of similar and what the outcome was? Or any advice really.

Commenting to bump your post. Wish I could offer some wisdom. Hang in there, you're doing the right thing getting your DD checked out as soon as you can. It may well be nothing serious at all. Flowers

That must be distressing.

Ring 111? Is it a GP appt you are going for or hospital….

twotiredwithtwo · 24/02/2023 14:45

Thank you @tattygrl I really appreciate it, keeping everything crossed that it's nothing serious.

@Suzi888 it's a GP appointment I'm having, I've managed to get an emergency appointment for 15:30 so that will hopefully provide some more answers.

I just feel so overwhelmed with worry and I really don't know what's normal and what's not. I also worry the drs won't have the right answers as when my daughter had her previous episode and stopped breathing, I had already taken her to the GP 3 times and the hospital once where they all told me she was fine. I insisted on taking her back, with everyone around me saying I was overreacting and yet she stopped breathing at the appointment and was very poorly. So I feel I can't really trust the doctors anymore which is terrible, I know they do their best under awful circumstances. It just feels like nothing is going to make me feel better until she's completely fine again. Sorry for the rambling, I'm just holding all my feelings in for my eldest daughter but have no one here to help today.

It will be a tear caused by all the diahorrohoea. You are absolutely right to get it checked out but I wouldn't worry xx

Well done for getting that appointment! Providing they're not running late it looks like you're in there now. I really hope you feel heard by this doctor and you can feel reassured that they get an accurate assessment.

It definitely could be a tear caused by diarrhea. They can bleed quite a lot! Obviously the right thing to do is get it checked, which you're doing, but I can assure you that tears bleed pretty alarmingly sometimes. I hope you get a good outcome from the appointment and that little one is on the mend as soon as possible. Flowers

Hey @twotiredwithtwo how was the appointment?

twotiredwithtwo · 25/02/2023 07:47

Sorry for the delay in updating. We were sent to the hospital from the drs. They did blood tests which have come back as inflamed? They said she's got a bad infection but they're not sure what it is yet. Her urine test flagged up a lot of issues, the colour strip was all wrong so they've sent a urine sample and stool sample to the lab. Her stools are also full of mucus as well as blood. They've held off on treatment foe the time being as they're not sure what they're treating but have said they might just put her on a general antibiotic for the time being. We're just waiting on drs rounds this morning to find out the plan. I'm just praying it's something simple and easily treated.

This was Campylobacter when it happened to me in December, off for colonoscopy in April to rule out any IBD

Nobody else was poorly, only me, so no idea where I picked it up

It must be absolutely terrifying in a small child I hope you are holding up ok and that little one is on the mend soon, big hugs xx
