Annoyed this has been discussed behind my back? Work related.

Currently work as assistant manager. I’m PT and have a young child.

Turns out current manager already has a plan in place with HO and has informed them that I’ll be taking over the running of the shop FT from X date when she will be retiring.
Absolutely no discussion with myself about this. I didn’t even know she was planning to retire soon! HO have been actively making arrangements for months apparently but nobody thought to ask me 🤔🙄

I’m now the one that “left them in a bit of a situation” as they’ll have to hire and train someone to work above me which wasn’t in their plans. Would you be annoyed by this?
Shes had discussions with other staff members about my home life/childcare/possible future children and how that may impact arrangements and how I’ll be able to work FT when my child is X age!!

Firstly you need to get in writing to HO that you a) had not been aware of this plan and it had never been discussed with you and that b) you intend to continue part time only, and that is not negotiable.

I'd hate this. So the person it going to affect most(you) is being informed of all this last?

Your homelife and childcare situation is not up for discussion as it's none of their business. Sorry OP I'd go daft if my personal circumstances were being discussed without me being in the loop.

Not a nice situation. I once started worked for a contractor and thought myself and my colleague were a team. Within weeks the client took my colleague in house paying them twice as much. I was later told it was always the plan that they had been waiting for someone 'like me' to come along who was competent at the job so that they could take them in house and I could be the dogsbody. Once they went in house it went to their head and they made it impossible for us to do our jobs properly, even depriving us of basic stationary to save their new boss money (it was a stationary company). I didn't stick around. I wouldn't have taken the post if I had known I was just being used to facilitate someone else getting looked after better.

Have you pointed out that it's actually your manager who has 'left them in a bit of a situation' by making wild assumptions about what you will be willing/able to do without asking you?!! Don't let them dump the blame on you, make it clear you were never asked, never agreed and are utterly shocked that all these plans have been made on your behalf without your knowledge or involvement. Bat the blame firmly back to your manager, where it belongs.

This is a very simple case of you sending a polite but firmly worded message pointing out that you had part time working agreed as per date xx with no end date or agreement that this would change. You do not understand why this has been confirmed without any conversation with you regarding responsibilities, pay or working conditions etc.

However, be warned, what are they planning to do with your current part time assistant manager role? Becuase there could be room here to make you redundant - ie they hire a new full time manager and the other part time manager also becomes full time and your job then ceases to exist. So if you are open to the promotion, if not the extra hours, you might want to open negotiations.
