Is IVF my only option now?

Had karyotype tested done, DH has had sperm tests, I've had ultrasounds, laproscopy, hysteroscopy and thyroid now under control and now have had results from NK cells come back normal,

What now? Is IVF the only viable option?

Posting here for traffic thank you

All our tests were normal.

We were advised IVF and got put down as unexplained infertility.

It worked.

RosaBonheur · 21/02/2023 17:56

Are you suffering from unexplained infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss?

nCemplument · 21/02/2023 20:01

@RosaBonheur recurrent pregnant loss

@WhichOneOfYasHasHadAShit how many cycles did you need?

Everything normal here too. Recurrent pregnancy lost. We did IVF in the end, with ICSI. I got a lot of embryos from the IVF (23). First resulted in an ectopic. Second nothing happened. Third time, I'm currently 13 weeks with identical twins.

So in our case it was worth it. I guess it depends how long you've been trying, how many losses and whether you could cope with IVF financially/emotionally/physically? I found it very very hard physically on my body.

LillyLeaf · 21/02/2023 20:13

We had pgs testing (I think it's called something else now) where they genetically tested our embryos. This was after 2 ivf losses. I'm so glad we tested because out of 8 embryos only 1 was 'normal' and that became DS.

FYI I found ivf to be physically fine, emotionally it was hard but that was mainly down to the miscarriages.

Good luck.

It’s hard with unexplained infertility as you could do clomid/ici but personally I wasted slot of time with that stuff. It’s impossible for you to know in advance though!

for balance, I found ivf really ok as a process and very positive in comparison to the years of trying. So you might also find it ok.

fwiw at my first meeting with my consultant, he said ‘yes you could do all the tests, clomid and ici or you could go straight to ivf and have a baby next month’. I didn’t listen as wanted it to be ‘as natural as possible’ and ‘resolve whatever the issue was’. Lol. Nice idea. Wasted years waiting for procedures and treatments. Did my first cycle of ivf and was pregnant in a month, just like he had said. Often think of the ten year old I could have had if I had listened!

just one persons story tho. Good luck op! Xx

2 resulted in MC.

Physically IVF was fine, the cycles got harder after MC.
But I remember the excitement we had for our first round.

@RosaBonheur recurrent pregnant loss

I'm sorry. I went through the same thing. Five losses in total.

I saw a doctor who prescribed follicle monitoring ultrasounds and a shot of HCG to trigger ovulation at the optimal time. I also did a couple of HCG shots during the literal phase, supposedly to boost progesterone production. I also took progesterone supplements in the first trimester, but I had done that on a few previous attempts which ended in MC so not sure if it made a difference.

I'm not in the UK so I don't know whether you could find anyone to do the same treatment, although doing a cycle of IUI would probably have the same effect as you'd be triggering ovulation with an HCG shot.

I'll never know whether the treatment made a difference or whether I just got lucky, but I had two successful pregnancies in a row after five losses in a row.

I'd also had all the same tests as you and everything came back normal.

RosaBonheur · 21/02/2023 20:47

*during the luteal phase, not the literal phase!

HairyKitty · 21/02/2023 20:50

If it’s recurrent pregnancy loss I’m not sure that ivf would offer any better likelihood of maintaining a pregnancy than a natural conception unless you went for genetic testing?
Have you had progesterone prescribed to support pregnancies? And the antibody thing tested (sorry don’t remember the name)?

nCemplument · 21/02/2023 20:53

Honestly I've lost count of tests but let's just say I have done everything (according to the opinion of three fertility doctors now)

IVF is recommended for losses because it could be blocked fallopian tubes or quality of embryo @HairyKitty

I've read IVF is not just for inability to conceive it's also used for recurrent miscarriage

Have you had tests for blood clotting factors? Like antiphosphilipid antibody syndrome? Has your partner had the sperm dna fragmentation test? I had a loss with an IVF pregnancy (with a normal embryo) so it’s not necessarily a cure for recurrent miscarriage. Though if you suspect it’s due to egg or sperm quality it could help narrow down the issue.

nCemplument · 21/02/2023 21:27

@Ifitistobesaid had them yes

I had ivf with Serum in Athens, after multiple losses. they also did a hysteroscopy which is meant to aid implantation.

Pregnant from that first cycle and now have a healthy 4 year old.
