Ryvita war I warning trivial first world problem so lighthearted!

I have successfully dieted around four and a half stone of blubber from my person. I have around another two stone to go. It has taken over a year and I have cut out wine, chocolate, peanut butter, crisps, puddings, you name it. (All with an iron will and slow progress.)

and bread. Which I love.

I have substituted this with ryvita for lunch with soup and for breakfast. My DH who does not need to lose weight has taken to helping himself to the ryvita and slathering it with butter (which I have also given up). Am I being unreasonable to ask him not to eat it as it is part of my daily food as I don’t eat bread. He can eat what he likes and considers it a snack! Or if he does eat it to replace it? He got annoyed when I said this and said that he does not ask me to replace items that he buys. I feel I am being a bit trivial, but I have few foodie treats atm and love a bit of sweet ryvita with jam, or savoury with marmite!

Congratulations on your amazing weight loss! I hear you op, it’s annoying, and he needs to replace them.

Stuff like this though it’s not worth arguing over really, order more packets and keep them hidden in a tin out of the way somewhere.

Encorebiscuitandtea768 · 21/02/2023 16:14

Also (sorry to divert threads) but how did you lose the weight? Any tips please?

JudgeRudy · 21/02/2023 16:15

It's not clear who, if anyone has the main responsibility for shopping but the answer seems obvious to me. Ryvitas are hardly a quick to perish food so just buy an extra pack so there's always some in.
You don't need them any more than he does. You've just chosen them as a regular part of your diet.

tealandteal · 21/02/2023 16:16

Do you mean he eats them all? Or he has one or two? That would decide if YABU or not. If he’s just having a few then buy an extra pack.

mathanxiety · 21/02/2023 16:23

Well done on the weight loss.

Your H is being a dick. Is he trying to sabotage you, do you think?

Maybe buy a stash of Ryvita and hide it from him.

maddy68 · 21/02/2023 16:26

Just buy extra rivita and less bread?

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 21/02/2023 16:36

Just buy more ryvita?

AnnoyedFromSlough · 21/02/2023 16:37

Surely it's a relatively cheap snack? I couldn't grudge someone some ryvita - I would just make sure we had plenty in the house.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 21/02/2023 16:57

My ex used to do this when I was dieting, he'd eat all the healthy snacks I'd bought for myself along with all his stuff, I'd never find out until I went to get one and they'd all gone.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 21/02/2023 16:57

It's easy to say buy more but OP's husband is anything like my ex, he'd eat the more too

Fair point!

is that why he’s

Encorebiscuitandtea768 · 21/02/2023 17:31

Sorry, posted too soon!

is that why he’s an ex? Sabotaging I mean!

44PumpLane · 21/02/2023 20:17

I voted YANBU as it's hugely frustrating when you buy something for yourself, for a specific reason, and there is plenty of other stuff in and yet everyone wants the one thing you've bought for yourself!! So that's totally irritating.

However, given the cost of ryvita, assuming you're not on a shoestring budget (which you may very well be), if you can afford it I say buy several extra packets of both sweet and savory and hide them somewhere.

One of the many many reasons Grin

Thomasina79 · 21/02/2023 21:41

Buying extra and hiding them is a good idea and yes they are relatively cheap. I think I am mildly upset because I have stuck so rigidly to my diet and more or less given up bread. He however can eat bread (and he has a croissant every day), but still eats the diet stuff I have put aside for my meals. I don’t think he is sabotaging as such, but it is thoughtless! Anyway, first world problems, I know; there are poor souls out in the world who have nothing to eat. I am being silly!

AnnoyedFromSlough · 21/02/2023 21:46

I don't think you are being silly. You weren't prepared for him to eat them, and you've been inconvenienced by it.

If my family is anything to go by, what will happen now is you'll buy extra - and he'll not eat any. So you'll go back to buying just what you need - which is when he'll decide he fancies some...

declutteringmymind · 21/02/2023 21:49

This is like meat eaters who snarf the vegetarian options. Buy him some for his birthday

Diddelydi · 21/02/2023 21:52

@Thomasina79
Ryvita are relatively cheap!! £1.90 for the sweet ones - extortionate 😱

OntarioBagnet · 21/02/2023 21:54

He should not touch it! Or at least replace it.

btw, has anyone seen the red quinoa protein ryvita in the blue packet recently? Seems to have disappeared and I’m very sad. What might be a good replacement? I’m on a brown packet atm, sweet onion flavour? Not as good.

Cheeseandpickleplease · 21/02/2023 21:54

Leave the ryvita eating bastard

(or buy an extra pack as per pp suggestion)

Hankunamatata · 21/02/2023 21:56

My kids have developed a love of dark rye ryvita with chocolate spread so now Iv loads of packets and some stashed

declutteringmymind · 21/02/2023 21:58

Basically ryvita is moreish. I can't diet with them because I will eat the whole packet.

BankOfDave · 21/02/2023 22:06

Well done OP 💪

What I would do in this situation is fashion myself some Ryvita lookalikes with cardboard and plant a few in an open packet, along with a message along the lines of “back off the Ryvitas”.
