Car insurance - do I need key cover and personal possessions cover?

My car insurance renewal is coming up soon and I am looking at quotes on comparison sites. There is a £50 difference between Insurer A and Insurer B.

Insurer A - £50 cheaper but does not include key cover or personal possessions cover
Insurer B - £50 more expensive but includes key cover and personal possessions cover.

I am trying to keep costs to a minimum and have six years' no claims bonus so hopefully wouldn't actually need either of these protections. But I'm also not sure if I should take the risk. Are these things necessary?

Surely that depends how likely you think you are to need key cover and personal possessions cover?

I personally wouldn't bother with either - keys I have a spare at home and personal possessions are never left in my car.

I take the view with insurance that you take what you need to avoid catastophic expenses but not the trivial stuff.

I wouldn't. They're "add on" things that are unlikely to ever be needed, nearly impossible to claim on, and purely exist so the company can upsell and get more money out of you. The excess on them usually negates any real benefit.

I wouldn't bother, I've got a spare key that would make do until I could get another and the only thing regularly kept in my car is shipping bags!

Do you ever leave £50 worth of stuff in your car?

How on earth do you expect someone else to advise you on this? There are so many factors. How many keys do you have? How long a journeys do you take? Are you forgetful/careless/have ADHD etc? Are you risk averse in general? How much would it cost to 'sort out'? Etc etc etc. Only you can make that decision
