Am I right not to report this?

I went to boots on Friday to pick up my prescription. They couldn’t find it. 15 minutes later, and they were still looking, having asked if I was sure I'd not collected it! 🙄

There were quite a few people at the front of the counter, so I stood to the side.
So when they opened a drawer while they were looking, I spotted something that looked like it could be mine

Yes, that was my carrier bag of three months worth of prescriptions
I couldn’t understand why they hadn’t spotted it, given that there were four different sets of tablets and eyedrops, which are bulky

By this time, the store manager had come over, and as it turned out, it was my prescription - but with somebody else’s details on the label.

I thought these things were checked? That person could’ve taken my prescription drugs away, and moreover, somebody has their prescription with my name, address, date of birth and phone number on the label!

The store manager apologised profusely and said she was going to look into how this could’ve happened, but it’s still really quite alarming

So I left it at that, but I kind of feel I ought to report it... breach of my personal information to start with. But the person whose details were on my prescription could have taken that away, and some people would perhaps just take the medicine that was in there?
It includes some meds for cancer and stroke, so potentially quite dangerous if you don't need to take them

Am dithering

There was no breach because no-one did take your personal data away.

Your data stayed with the pharmacy who had it in order for them to issue your drugs.

You can't report something that might have happened. (ie someone might have got my stuff and I could have got theirs)

There seems to have been an internal mix up which was caught by their checks - because you were not given the wrong stuff and no-one was given your information.

This. Let it go

@Tilllly entirely useless post to you but I'm wondering how on earth you knew which bag of medication was yours without your name on it?! There's literally hundreds of bags in my local pharmacy when I go in!

I'm all for entirely useless posts!

I'd stood to the side of the counter and as they opened a drawer, I could see in the bag and it looked like my plethora of meds

How do you know the other person has your details on their prescription bag? More likely they didn't as it would have been checked when they handed it out. You can't complain about something that didn't happen.

I completely get your concerns OP but given the store manager was involved it already has been reported, no?

What I think I'd do is look to get in contact with the store manager and 'check in' about it, not in an arsey way but just ask that it has been picked up how it happened and all is in hand. Seems like an even handed way to deal with it without escalating the situation.

Yes, and that's what I decided to do

I collected my repeat prescription from Boots today. I have to give my name and address 2-3
times, then when they hand it over they ask I visually check it’s my details on the label. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe your pharmacist needs to do this as can imagine a mistake of mislabelling but there is usually/always more than 1 check.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/02/2023 21:57

I think you were right to leave it with the pharmacy manager to resolve, and I think your friends were probably just enjoying a bit of righteous indignation.

Pantsomime · 20/02/2023 22:10

I wouldn’t report. I once picked my prescription up and as I clutched the bag, the medicine felt different so I opened it and it contained someone else’s drugs. I handed it back and it turned out I’d been given the wrong packet, it had someone else’s name and address on it! She’s asked my name etc too before she gave it to me. The look of sheer horror on her face said it all. Perhaps I should’ve reported it but it was an innocent mistake, my bag was still in the pharmacy with my correct meds. I know she’ll not make the same mistake again
