We need a new car, we currently have a SUV type and want another SUV type. 3 years ago we put on finance a £19,800 SUV and pay approx £270 a month.

Looking today at same model same sort of age gap e.g we got a 18 plate in 2020 and now looking at a 20 plate. Showing as £21,500. Fine things have gone up. But the finance in now £450 a month!!!

This seems to be the same for most dealerships except VW who show as £279 on the website then in the dealership they say that's no longer the case it's actually £530 a month!!

What is going on. We are loosing our patience with it and need to trade in the car!!

We need a 'big' car due to children and various dogs so has to be an SUV!

If you’ve got a 2018 plate why do you need a newer car already? Ours are 2013 and we aren’t upgrading because (like you) we can’t afford it.

the op has to pay a lump sum of £12k to keep the car, which she doesn’t necessarily want

@StillWantingADog I missed that!

12k is still cheaper than a new SUV though, and if op wants to pay monthly the bank may offer a loan

There used to be one, if there isn’t now then I’m assuming it wasn’t well used. 🤷‍♀️

OntarioBagnet · 24/04/2023 12:53

Saying that, I’m going to vote yes as I would like it back.

@OntarioBagnet I think that's part of the point - as I put in the intro to the aibu, it's natural that such a board won't get very heavy traffic as in any given year, assuming an average car-ownership duration of 8 years or so, about 12% of mumsnetters may have a car-buying related question and there might be a similar number who got a car within the last year who might be in a position to answer such questions/share experiences. The fact that it's quite niche makes a dedicated board more useful because it makes it easier for these people to find each other.
