Sex topics appearing on active. Please vote

I want things to go back to how they were before. Posters on both sides of the argument are wanting the same thing. For it to be removed from Active. But this has all got very silly, and very nasty, and arguing doesn't change anything.
I don't know what it would take for MNHQ to listen to us, but surely if we voted overwhelmingly, MNHQ just might take notice? Worth a try, isn't it?

So if you want things to go back to how it was before please vote YANBU.

No need to leave comments, there's enough other threads for those who want a rant.

But please just vote.
YANBU if you want it removed from Active
YABU if you want it to remain on Active

Another one?

sorrynotathome · 19/02/2023 08:26

Well now you ARE being unreasonable.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 19/02/2023 08:27

Every time I see a sex topic I'm sick in my mouth and burst into tears. STOP THESE SICKOS.

ZenNudist · 19/02/2023 08:30

Why is voting a problem?. MNHQ clearly want it in active for their corporate sponsors so it's not going to change just because the sites users don't like it.

The ad for the sex toy has now got a picture so the site is becoming unusable for people whose kids are capable of glancing at what they are looking at and asking questions. I don't want to explain sex toys to my 9 and 12yos.

Yabu
If you don't like it scroll on

This sounds like you're making fun of people who have suffered sex based trauma.
I'm sure you're not, but it might be worth remembering that sex based trauma is very real and VERY triggering for some people.

So as I said in my post in the other thread.

Should anyone need to know, you can hide the entire Sex topic by going here on desktop or mobile site:
www.mumsnet.com/settings/hidden-threads

People that already had the topic hidden found that for some reason it was unhidden and the threads started showing in their active list again.
I don’t have the App but gather it’s really difficult to hide topics using it.
The sooner the topic is removed from Active the better but I don’t think MNHQ is listening.

justcallmebozo · 19/02/2023 08:38

@AnotherAppleThief @sorrynotathome

Started a new post and trying to have the other one removed as some posters said the voting options weren't clear

Tbh I'd never seen one of the topics till today and I'd never sought it out and was blissfully unaware of it. I already hid AMA so I knew how to hide it when I saw one. I hope it stays hidden for anyone hiding it.

Yabu
If you don't like it scroll on

Yanbu
If you like it, go find it.

Sex topic titles can be triggering and scrolling past them can bring back trauma.

Paq · 19/02/2023 13:10

YANBU. I only ever look at MN through the app so I've had to make a special trip to the website to hide the sex topic. I don't particularly want to hide it but I absolutely don't want to see thread titles like "bought my husband a fleshlight" in active convos.

ThomasWaghornsConeHat · 19/02/2023 13:20

I voted yanbu but also just hidden it. I'm not against it really, it's just not what I want from MN either.

AuntieStella · 19/02/2023 13:24

Why don't you just hide it?

OK, depending on what platform you use, you might have to log on again to one that it's easier to do it from. But it's really not difficult (and whilst you're there you can check if there are others you want to hide/unhide, making Active Convos more aligned to your preferences

Abitofalark · 19/02/2023 13:40

I don't know what this thread is about and I don't notice sex threads but I wish I knew how to hide posters who make gross comments or have gross usernames. Is that possible?

LemonSwan · 19/02/2023 14:12

I saw this when the argument started and thought it was hilarious and yabu.

Then I saw a thread entitled using a flesh light on dp yesterday 🤮

YANBU it can stay on the sex board if people want to find it!

Deadringer · 19/02/2023 14:24

I browse the sex topic occasionally but never posted there before yesterday. It being in active made it easier to post iykwim, but on balance I would prefer to seek it out when I need it. Yanbu.

VoluntaryWing · 19/02/2023 14:32

I hid it. It reappeared.

Please sort it out MNHQ, not everyone wants to take part in others sex lives/fetishes merely by looking at Active threads.

If we want it, we can find it.

justcallmebozo · 19/02/2023 22:33

Thank you everyone for voting. At the moment 84% of you want the sex threads to be removed from Active.

I don't know what it would take to make a difference. Would MN take any notice, even if it was 100% ? I'm not sure they would but i guess it's worth a try.

From a family friendly perspective, I vote for hidden

VirtualRealitee · 19/02/2023 22:41

The thing is, there's obviously no voting option for 'I don't mind/care either way'.

For all we know, they could be the majority of MNetters.

SnarkyBag · 19/02/2023 22:46

MN will take notice if it somehow affects their profits. This is no longer a site made by women for women. That ship sailed a long time ago.

If you can accept that and the fact that as a site user you are merely content not customer then the site still has just enough positive uses to make if worth using. Time to lower your expectations of the people the own Mumsnet your vote doesn’t matter.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 19/02/2023 22:48

i’m beginning to feel like MN have an agenda. With all the sex toy ads, and now the sex topic appearing in active, it feels like boundary pushing to me.

YANBU OP. I don’t know what’s happened to this website lately, what with all the explicit sexual content and the bitchy posters, but it’s feeling increasingly unwelcoming. It would behoove @MNHQ to remember that we are the content creators here, and without us there is no MN.

Hawkins003 · 19/02/2023 22:36

MN is hardly a family friendly site. :-)
