Ask about menopause

Hi I’m 50, on the Mirena coil and don’t have any monthly cycle. I have recently been very tired, lethargic and fed up, I went to the GP who did bloods and results are I was low in vitamin D which I guess can explain how I’m feeling.

I was told there’s no blood test to check for menopause/ peri menopause. I really want to know if I’m in menopause though. I don’t have any other symptoms though, but of course some women are lucky enough to not experience any. Is there any way I can know if I’m going through menopause?

My doctor told me the same thing, that there is no test for menopause, however, my friend saw her doctor about menopause symptoms and they did a blood test for something called FSH. Apparently the levels are higher when in menopause.
She had high levels and now she's on HRT. Hope this helps

I’d like to know about this. I’m 44 but Have no periods did to the mini pill. So how do I know when menopause is kicking in?

Forgot to say that she's not on any contraception because they don't offer it if you're on contraception containing oestrogen or progesterone because the contraception changes your natural FSH hormone levels. So I'm guessing it wouldn't be a true reading.

My (female) GP said that the only way to know for absolute definite is afterwards, once your periods have totally stopped. She said the blood tests for hormone levels etc are just not reliable, and that periods are not a real indicator until they stop totally, but that if you have several of the classic other symptoms it's best to assume it's perimenopause and treat accordingly. I've been on HRT for maybe 4 years now, for things like hot flushes, massively increased mood swings before periods, rosacea, brain fog, exhaustion, hair thinning, all those classic things. My periods are still coming (dammit) and getting more frequent, so I have a light period about every 3 weeks, although sometimes I go seven or eight weeks without one.

I had a blood test for sore joints and it came back with low oestregon. That's how I was diagnosed with early menopause.
