At your local laundrette.

Family of 4. Back from a half term break yesterday. Tons of washing. Dropped four black sacks to laundrette yesterday afternoon sorted into darks (2), lights (1) and mixed colours (1).

Picked it up today- washed,dried and folded (not ironed but I don't iron anyway Blush). A grand total of £43.

I don't have a cleaner, I don't smoke and I'm seriously considering giving up wine to never have to do the laundry ever again.

@Solmum1964 there’s so much residual powder and conditioner in laundry machines that it overpowers anything put in for one wash run. It’s still a
great thing to do end of holiday or during frantic work periods.

My mum LOVES our laundrette and refuses to get a washing machine or dryer even though she can afford it. It's where all the local gossips congregate, so she knows what's going on locally better than I do. She goes in, puts her wash on, buys a cup of tea and slice of cake from the cafe next door, then sits in until it's done - costs her about a tenner all in, plus it's gorgeously warm in there. She lives on her own, so keeps offering to take our washing down even though I've got my own washing machine, just so she doesn't miss out on any news.

There is a laundrette near my dc's club so I set a delayed wash to come on at 5am on a Sat & it's done by the time I wake up. I then pack it into a few bags & tumble dry it in the laundrette. By the time the kids have finished their clubs, the washing is dried & packed away.

I've been pondering over taking my curtains. They are massive and I really struggle with them though, so maybe not fair. I wonder if I took them in and stayed to wash and dry them, they would help me fold them? 😕

Are you sure they are washable? Curtains often are not, and shrink when you wash them.

That would be a good excuse reason to take them somewhere to be dry cleaned.

I’d rather do it myself with my own choice of washing powder / liquid. I use a sensitive liquid with nearly no fragrance but when I’ve used hotel washing services on holiday a couple of times they’ve always used very heavily scented powder and I hate it.

I have a washer-dryer. I haven't done any "laundry" in my home. I've pressed some buttons.

I could use a gardener for that money. Nothing there gets sorted with a press of a button...

Definitely washable - I've washed them many times in the past but for various reasons I would find it difficult now. I made them myself years and years ago out of dress material that someone got for me cheap. 😅

I love the launderette. It's a nice place to sit while your washing goes around. Mine has good staff, so helpful. I used it all the time during building work. My dog used to sit under the benches and get fussed - it is always warm and she was in heaven. Twice yearly quilts and big blankets washed, all soft dog toys in one go. Get a box of Maltesers and a magazine and have a peaceful hour.

@iwantmyownicecreamvan , that’s good to know. It’s very practical.

My dry-clean only curtains don’t get cleaned very often.
