I have name changed but been around for a while and every time I have a problem I post on MN because you are so helpful! So here I am with my latest dilemma.

I am really feeling the need for a career change. I am a teacher, working abroad at the moment. I’m really itching to retrain as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, but I have no clue how to. I have tried researching online but not come across much clear information.

My degree is in Anthropology. I was considering starting a bachelor’s degree in Psychology as that seems like a good starting point. But it seems from my research into universities that I might be able to go directly to compete a master’s in Psychology, because from what I can see, to be eligible for the master’s course you only need a 2:1 bachelor’s degree in any topic, rather than specifically in Psychology.

If I completed a master’s degree in Psychology, what would be my next step to specifically get into CBT? I’m currently abroad still and needing to do my study via distance learning (but can do practical work experience/placements in the country I’m in as required by the course). I’d love to study as much as possible within UK universities via distance learning. Is this possible, do you think?

I’m currently saving up to take a career break in order to retrain so I’ll be able to fully commit to this. I’m hoping it’s possible to do from abroad as much as possible due to low cost of living here making time off to study much more doable than if I moved home to the UK. Would love to hear from anyone who knows about this field or has any experience or advice! Help me make my plan!

Only you can decide and plan out your life, strangers on the net are unlikely to bring you closer to your ambitions. Especially this sect of the forum.

That said, we can offer motivation; if you have ambitions that won't leave your mind that's a sign to go for. Life is short, we regret what we didn't do more than what we did do. Good luck
