To ask someone to interpret my dream? School heartthrob/ weight related

Had a dream last night that the boy I had a crush on in school put on weight through drinking cider ! And wore these hideous unflattering trousers in which his bum looked hideously big in.

He was gorgeous in school

Sorry for the randomness I was a bit Grin typing it but let's face it it's Friday and we all need a break - if only from the Sam Smith Brits outfit memes!

It's a series of electrical impulses in the brain and means absolutely nothing.

Well, you have been looking at photos of Sam Smith recently. Your subconscious is trying to deal with the trauma.

it would explain everything but the cider.

I tend to dream about what I've been thinking about. If I had that dream I'd probably think it reflected my current thoughts about my life stage, my body changing, what I want for my future. Probably also a reminder to think about how what I eat and drink will affect me in future! I think the teenage heartthrob is possibly a marker of time rather than a specific person.

Thanks - interesting observations there !

Maybe you had been thinking about how things could have been with him compared to your current/ex DH/DP and your subconscious has stepped in to give your head a wobble and tell you 'don't be daft, he's not 16 and with the body of a Greek demigod anymore, he's going to resemble Jabba the Hutt and smell of rotten apples everytime he burps'

This is what I was thinking but with a less diverse vocabulary Grin

I would interpret this along the lines of nostalgia ain’t what it used to be…

www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-science-behind-dreaming/

dreqms have no hidden messages nor can you “interpret” them. It now seems and has for a long time, that dreams are the way the brain creates memories and links them to emotions , plus helps with problem solving by replaying simulations , particularly of perceived threats . Whilst you might not know why on earth such a weird dream occurred , in all cases the Brian is playing around with junk in your head, sifting through, creating memories of key stuff and their emotions, and ditching the non useful stuff

The REM sleep does most of the work around emotional connection to memories. We cannot survive without long term memories , without others support . And part of that is based on having the emotions relating to that memory. Think about historically us facing down a bear or wolf- how do we know that we need to freeze/fight/flight rather than cuddle it - it has to do with emotions and recalling the fear you felt previously when it growled or snapped at you, or the fear of the adult screaming “run” next to you 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣 How do you know your baby is yours to take care of not some random child- that’s the link between memory of child’s face and the emotions relating to bonding.
yep, we do some fairly non survival skill with our dreams mostly - but dreaming is thought to be a evolutionary advantage in animals that do it

it is interesting to note that the whole REM theory around memories and their link to emotions , that has led to the treatment of PTSD with Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR). The EMR bit is looking at the memory in a controlled way by “replaying” it awake but still using the bilateral brain functions, and the R (reprocessing) is trying to put it back in the brain with better emotions attached to it so that the memory is less traumatic.

This involves making eye movements while thinking about the traumatic event. It helps your brain to reprocess the event and deal with the painful memories in a new way until the event becomes less vivid. No one really quite knows how it works. The rapid eye movement is thought to be just the bit we can see of the bilateral activation going on in the brain during REM sleep- so many people treated with EMDR find they need other forms of bilateral stimulation such as touch or sound . It’s all very weird but it does work for many people. Juries is out on totally how it works.

Lol this is so true - he's certainly not a lean 16 yr old anymore - Grin. by the time he was 14 he was already 5ft 9 - very handsome etc!
