Severe headaches = help!!!!

Just want to start off by saying that it’s likely I’m putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 and that actually this is completely unrelated to the headaches, but I thought I would ask in case anyone has any knowledge.

I’ve been suffering hideous headaches since around 12. I’d never had a single headache in my life until then and suddenly I was having them several times a week and vomiting with the pain. I had a doctor who said no tests were necessary and it was hormonal changes causing the headaches. He was probably correct, and it’s clearly nothing serious as that was 20 years ago and I’m still here, but i suppose it would have been better to get some testing done just to make sure the headaches were definitely migraines etc. But regardless, it’s clearly nothing sinister. Albeit very unpleasant when it happens.

but I was at the hairdresser recently and she mentioned about the shape of my skull and how she had felt a lot of heads in her career but that mine was the strangest. I knew it was a bit wonky but didn’t realise how wonky it apparently was compared to the norm. I always assumed a suture closed too early or late or incorrectly. Basically i have a big indented line running down where the sagital suture would be. It’s probably about 1.5cm- 2cm deeper than the rest of my skull- my skull curves normally and then suddenly drops down into the dip. You can actually feel the edge of the skull as it dips down into it- it’s not a gradual dip it’s quite steep down into the dent. It runs for around 3 inches vertically down where the saggital suture was.

I just thought everyone had something like this on their head and that it was possibly a suture not closing properly but I’ve never been worried about it. I suppose what I’m wondering is, would that have anything to do with the headaches? Just curious as when the headaches started I was going through growth spurts and I’m wondering if everything inside me grew but this inwards groove is affecting the space in my skull or perhaps something is rubbing off it since it’s dented inwards?

as I said, I’m probably joining the wrong dots but after the hairdressers reaction I suppose it got me wondering if it could be linked at all (Or if it’s just that my skull is messed up, LOL)

Get it checked. INSIST on being taken seriously.

As someone who has suffered for years & had no joy from every specialist under the sun, I've found the problem with an offhand comment from my physio. Solving it is more difficult, but I have somewhere to start.

I have no idea if your theory holds any weight, however you don’t have to put up with such severe headaches.

See the GP, tell her about what you’ve found on your head, and get referred if necessary. If it’s nothing to be concerned about then consider insisting on preventative medication for the headaches. I’ve had migraines and headaches since age 12 and have always been offered preventative medication, and I was also referred to a Neurologist when they got really bad.

I don't know about the other stuff, but my dd started with hormonal headaches on top of pmt and serious period pains when she was twelve. I took her to an acupuncturist and with just one treatment she never got the headaches again and and others eased considerably.

Thanks for all of the advice 👍🏻

It’s likely that the groove in my skull is unrelated to the headaches, but after the hairdressers reaction to it I started wondering if it possibly was related. It’s a definitive inwards groove so I suppose my question is, would that make things tighter for my brain (especially as a I was growing during puberty) and possibly cause the headaches? After googling I could only find information about craniosynostosis in babies which this obviously isn’t, I couldn’t find anything related to it in adults.

Apologies, another hopeful bump.

I had years of horrendous headaches. Turned out my skull and CVJ weren’t aligned, probably from falling off a horse. Resolving that made a massive difference.

Wow- I had no idea that was possible!
