To ask what three dots might mean in this context?! (lighthearted)

My incredibly good looking neighbour helped me restart my car today and also gave some kind advice when he heard about my terrible day. He was so sweet and the first time I’ve kind words in a long time. So I know I’m overthinking and projecting by fancying him even more! I texted him a thank you and replied “Any time...
Take care”. What could those three dots after anytime possibly mean? I thought three dots meant words have been left out, so what more might he be hinting at?! Anyone who suggests he just accidentally hit the full stop three times will be ignored 😁

My mum uses … as a form of punctuation

i don’t know why

ChefsSalad · 15/02/2023 22:22

It means he's texting you from... Rebekah Vardy's account

Polly1974 · 15/02/2023 22:23

I think it means ... get yourself round here with a bottle of wine on Friday night... 😉

CohenTree · 15/02/2023 22:25

Yes there are missing words, it means "Any time you need help you can ask me".
Just ask him out for godsake.

CherrySocks · 15/02/2023 22:25

I think he fancies you...

  • but it's not a good idea to get involved with a neighbour as it's very awkward if it all goes wrong...
Millana · 15/02/2023 22:26

I know someone who uses an elipses as a full stop... It's really annoying... However it doesn't mean anything... It does make her messages difficult to read...

Maybe your neighbour does that too... The "take care" is definayely a conversation ender though... I think if he wanted to keep chatting or invite anything more, he wouldn't have shut the conversation down with "take care"... Sorry...

I hope you get to chat with him more...

Emmamoo89 · 15/02/2023 22:27

Ask him out x

It means he loves you…

I was hoping for something a bit more naughty than love! Besides if he’s this laissez faire with ellipsis I bet he’s equally negligent with apostrophes and therefore love would not be possible.

I think you should turn into Julia from Motherland and behave like she did over Garry the builder.

😂

greenspaces4peace · 15/02/2023 23:05

mean's his keyboard is sticky.................
tttttttttthere

Mountainpika · 15/02/2023 23:07

How come you had his number so you could text him? Is there more to this than you are telling us? I wonder...

Margot78 · 15/02/2023 23:08

No we all joined a whatsapp group in our street during Covid so we could help each other out.

First a car restart and now he's ...ing you!? He wants it.

See, I read the … as slightly flirty. I teach English and I do overanalyse punctuation.
‘Any time.’ = abrupt
‘Any time!’ = cheery
’Any time…’ = more to be said

‘Take care’ isn’t something I’d read into as being final.

If he spent a whole helping, why not pop round with a bottle of wine as a thank you. And hope he invites you to share it 😉

I agree with this.

Anytime... suggests more to be said.

But I do think the take care kind of negates that, as it seems like a conversation finisher.

They don't mean words have been omitted though. It's a To Be Continued kind of thing...

How was he in person though? Any signs of flirting?

Mountainpika · 15/02/2023 23:10

P.S. I'm glad you would stick to your principles over apostrophes, OP. A man who doesn't use them correctly isn't worth a second glance. Even if he can start a misbehaving car.

It means turn up at his door at 9:08pm in just a bath robe, carrying a super soaker in one hand and a tin of peaches in syrup in the other.

You've done this before, haven't you?

Naughty as in
come …
on..
down.

Margot78 · 15/02/2023 23:15

He was pleasant and attentive, but when he looked at me it honestly felt like there was a huge bolt of lightning between us but that was probably totally one sided, or maybe I was standing too close to the jump leads.

@Margot78 go round with a can of oil and ask him if he can show you where the lube goes …

Margot78 · 15/02/2023 23:18

I think some of you are over estimating my confidence.

Sorry!

on a more sensible note, why not just take a bottle of wine as a thank you, or when you next see him suggest a coffee and a cake as a thank you? It looks like you know him well enough iyswim, he’s not a neighbour you’ve just met. (I’m assuming both free to do so without anyone else being upset).

^good suggestion.

<wonders if too early to be buying a hat?>

Agapornis · 15/02/2023 23:34

Why don't you offer him a ride, any time...

321user123 · 15/02/2023 23:48

I use a LOT of ellipsis… it’s my writing style!
(sorry I couldn’t resist! 😝)

I think it’s to soften a sentence.

To me, if he wrote “Any time” or “Any time.” Would seem… harsh? Not sure of the most appropriate word, but I hope you get what I mean

NewNameForXmas · 15/02/2023 23:49

Take him a bottle of wine as a thank you and be pleasant and flirty if you fancy him!
