To think martial arts could make an aggressive child worse?

DS is 5, turning 6. He's having continuous issues with hitting other pupils in his class out of frustration. I'm going around in absolute loops trying every technique I can think of to get him to listen and for once not punch someone that day but I feel at a loss.

DP suggests martial arts. I feel as though he may not be mature enough to understand the 'laws' behind it and may just be even more fuelled by the novelty of the 'fighting' and get even worse?

Anyone had a similar situation?

Its discipline that helps - to progress you have to learn self control and a set of rules. And role models.

Find a good dojo: talk to the sensei. Karate is both fights and kata (doing precise moves but not fighting). We managed to find an England international who has built a dojo on kata: he does not focus on whizzing through belts but on the self discipline and motivation it takes to become elite at your sport. His dojo now has multiple internationals. DS was 7 when he started, now 9. At first he was very eager to do all the moves all the time, which concerned his teacher, but he has really benefited from older role models showing him how to behave.

We also did Thrive Family with our school, to learn more about his brain and different parenting techniques that was very useful during these years

Also triple P parenting is usually free from the council if your school isn't a thrive school

It's all about self control. It's what makes it an art and so beautiful to watch.

He'll find it challenging, especially the meditative parts, but it could be absolutely perfect for him to learn Karate.

My youngest ds now 10 does karate. He started at 5. There's so much more to it than fighting. He has learnt self control and learnt how to channel his aggression. We put him in karate lessons as he was having difficulty concentrating and staying focused. It's been a big positive i his life. It might not work for you son but it might be worth a try.

No, it won't. It'll teach discipline

In my children's experience - it takes a long time between beginning the sport before you get to the point of actually physically sparring with another person. Years.
