AIBU to expect healthy life advice from GP?

I finally got through to my GP surgery this morning after a record breaking 68 attempts (usually well over that) i explained i'd like a triage call from GP. Receptionist asked what issue was I said i just joined a gym and due to terrible breathlessness i just wanted a quick check and some advice on Healthy heart etc.

To my utter shock she was hesitant to give me the slot. She reminded me how busy docs are and did i think this warranted a call? I said given my father died of a Heart attack at 67 i thought it did. She reluctantly put me on the list.

Morning surgery is now over and I didn't get a call. Do I assume there will be no call now as the afternoon surgery is kept for appointments made by GP's? If so was I wrong to ask to speak to GP? Where else can I get this advice?
Thanks x

Op only you know your body.
I would say a trip to the Gp is warranted. Breathlessness could be something as simple as low iron (anemia) or more serious- as others have commented on this thread.
Make a non urgent appointment and get it checked out.

I had the same symptoms as OP. I thought it was because I was unfit. It wasn't. My heart defect was missed time and again because my GP thought I was being ridiculous.

Well that isn’t what you just said. You said you’d been “feeling unwell for months” in your first post and now you’re saying your symptoms are only that you feel breathless when you exercise. Which is it?

Quick Update.

GP called me the following morning and took my history as explained in my op. She asked to see me I had bloods done and she listened to my chest.

She was concerned there is an expiratory wheeze and has changed my asthma regime. (inhaled steroids)

Bloods show very low iron and borderline thyroid problems to be repeated in 3 months. She helped me talk over living to get a healthy heart and gave me a course of
iron.

She explained that yes health advice is a big part of her job and a part she enjoys!

So peeps! If you need to see the GP do
it! Don't let a "well meaning" receptionist put you off.
