To expect the office cleaners to properly clean?

I don't know whether my expectations are too high, hence my post.

I work in a serviced office, where daily cleaning is part of the deal. But all the cleaners do is a cursory wipe of the desks, change the bins and hoover. All other surfaces (cupboards, monitors, printers, pedestals, phones) are untouched meaning a huge build up of dust and grime after a while. I then have to get out my disinfectant wipes and do a proper clean (can't stand dirt!). I personally feel like this shouldn't be necessary and that
all surfaces should be cleaned.

I've complained to the office manager, taking photos of the dust. They've pushed back saying it would take the cleaners too much time to clean everything and it's not in their contract
to do anything other than what they already do.

So, who is being unreasonable?

😂

You are.

Ohdearnotagain76 · 15/02/2023 10:00

The cleaners aren't going to clean what they don't get paid for so their not being unreasonable.

The boss isn't going to waste money on extra cleaning while other people (you) are doing it. Try to leave the cleaning and if you have to so it just do your desk. Does it bother your other colleagues?

If you all have your own desks then the cleaning of them falls to the people who sit at them.

Cleaners do communal spaces - loos, kitchens, carpets, stairs rails, door handles etc. They aren't there to clean your desks and your phones!

I want to see a photo of the dust!!!

Honestly OP - get a grip 😂😂

Ffs you are - if it's not in their contract, it's not fir them to do

A serviced office that you pay for, should be clean. The jobs you describe might not need to be cleaned daily but should be done at least weekly. The office manager needs to take another look at what should be included in the cleaning contract.

I worked by myself in a small office complex of about 35 separate offices.

The management hired a cleaning company that sent one young man to clean all the offices overnight.

His name was Anthony and he was very polite and respectful and he’d arrive at my office around 5pm every evening.

Only I didn’t see him for about 10 days. When he returned, I asked him where he’d been.

”Oh - I got stabbed.” 😳

Is it April 1st? do you genuinely really need to ask?

Pawpatrolsucks · 19/07/2023 02:14

If you don’t feel that the office you rent the space from is clean find a new space to rent.

Not sure why there are comments on a thread from February but while we are here I have never known office cleaners to do more than this. Our work cleaning has just a few hours to clean several toilets and then hoover and change the bins in each room which there are quite a few of.

The jobs OP described are usually left for office staff looking for a job to do when it's quiet. It's been the same everywhere I have worked. I couldn't imagine complaining about this, I would just get the wipes out and get on with it if it concerned me.
