To think Rebel Wilson makes it sound like she was purchasing a car rather than a baby?

'I'd only been dating Ramona for two months and I had to be like, 'By the way, the surrogate looks like it's out of the first trimester and it is serious and I am going to have a baby by the end of the year.'

I can’t help but feel uncomfortable with the surrogate being referred to as it? And it wasn’t serious when the woman risking her life carrying a baby was implanted?

She is referring to the baby’s mother as ‘it.’ But then anyone who would buy a baby and risk another woman’s life to get one is pretty disgusting so I’m not surprised by the dehumanising language.

Yes same here.

The surrogate looks like it's out the first trimester = the surrogate looks like the baby is out the first trimester

Eh?

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 15/02/2023 09:14

It definitely sounds as if she's referring to the mother. Because she begins the sentence with "the surrogate".

But I think that the language around surrogacy has to be like that, in order to obscure the physical reality of what is being done to the mother and child. She probably picked that language up at the surrogacy shop.

I have lost all respect for her.

HorribleNecktie · 15/02/2023 09:15

Another Hollywood human trafficker.

Honestly I think we wouldn't be critical with a pregnant mother on wording, I've heard plenty of people have words/names for the baby because it's not quite 'real' to them yet.
It, Spot, Bump, Bean etc etc - just because the baby is via a surrogate doesn't mean that the wording is wrong.

Yes, yes it really does, why can’t you see this?

Iggii · 15/02/2023 09:16

I assume she meant the pregnancy as it

Perfectly said

This.

The surrogate looks like it's out the first trimester = the surrogate looks like the baby is out the first trimester

That makes no sense at all.

The lengths people will go to to defend this stuff is staggering.

This. Rebel Wilson is very intelligent and there are no comprehension issues apparent. She genuinely considers that the woman who carried her baby for her is of no significance; an 'it'. Someone whose body she felt able to pay for, use and then discard.

Leothebear · 15/02/2023 09:27

Awful

Wanderingowl · 15/02/2023 09:29

I'm going to be honest, but I don't understand why she and her partner would choose surrogacy. I mean, I know it's not exactly ethical either way, but I understand why a male same sex couple use a surrogate. Neither of them have a uterus. But a female same sex couple, odds are that at least one of them could have carried a pregnancy.

knittingaddict · 15/02/2023 09:29

Emmamoo89 · 15/02/2023 09:00

I have no issues with her. I like her

That's a very inane response to a serious issue.

To others - Yes, she is calling the woman "it". Couldn't be more clear that it isn't the baby she is talking about.

CatJumperTwat · 15/02/2023 09:30

She's buying a baby and ripping it away from its mother the moment it's born. I don't think anybody should be surprised she's a massive cunt.

Twawmyarse2 · 15/02/2023 09:33

Well, she bought a baby. Of course there's not the same emotional attachment- I guess it is preferential to refer to the surrogate as "it" - then she can distance herself from the icky feelings that may go in hand with the whole situation if she looks too closely. View it as a business transaction - that's what it is.

Abhorrent practice.

SpookTacula · 15/02/2023 09:34

ZenNudist · 15/02/2023 08:48

Yes it's not nice but I'm not sure she's not referring to the baby as it. Which would be acceptable as we don't know if it is male or female.

Pity a child born to RW. Going to be left alone a lot. Shouldn't be allowed.

Plenty of shite biological parents too.

Abhannmor · 15/02/2023 09:35

The whole baby market thing is so depressing. When Angelina Jolie collected one of hers she didn't even hold him. She was walking in front while some minion carried the baby to the aircraft.

They have no idea how awful it looks do they ?

WhatNoRaisins · 15/02/2023 09:38

Even the handmaids didn't get referred to as it. That's a new low.

burnoutbabe · 15/02/2023 09:38

Iggii · 15/02/2023 09:16

Yes I thought that.

The surrogacy is passed its first trimester. Similar to the pregnancy is passed its first trimester (but she can't say that as that could lead to confusion as to if she is pregnant or not so she is being explicit about the process happening)

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 15/02/2023 09:43

www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/rebel-wilson-baby-news

Rebel says "Having a baby via a surrogate is a bit different of an experience because in a way, you feel a little disconnected" you don't say! It's a lot different as you are very disconnected!

Dustyblue · 15/02/2023 09:47

I used to think I was ok with altruistic surrogacy (say between sisters for no money for eg) but not commercial surrogacy (like RW and other high profile people).

But now with so much profligate commercial surrogacy about I'm starting wonder if it's every really justifiable.

It does get to me when people appear to have purchased a baby, had a massive baby shower, hired a full time nanny and gone about life as usual. Bit removed from the usual parenting experience.

Not sure the surrogate mother can ever be truly protected either, money or no money.

TicketBoo23 · 15/02/2023 09:49

I think people thought she must be warm and likeable because she was an overweight, cuddly, quirky, comedy actress.

She's actually not.

VestaTilley · 15/02/2023 09:50

YANBU. Wilson is an arsehole. Surrogacy is human trafficking. How in the name of God it is legal I have no idea.

TicketBoo23 · 15/02/2023 09:51

She cane across as quite arrogant on GN describing how she led having a film classified the way they wanted it in spite of it's content/language.

I think she was also one of the blandest, most boring guests on Travel man.

TicketBoo23 · 15/02/2023 09:53

On the main subject, the apparent PD narc Amber Heard (I'm not pro Johnny btw, quite the opposite) did this too.

Top posh to push, too posh to carry. The sub class can do that.

TicketBoo23 · 15/02/2023 09:55

*I should amend that to make it clear I think anyone who wants a caesarian should get one, I'm not against women who don't want to go through traditional child birth, it's a potential horror show.

I just mean these women want to outsource child bearing to poorer women because it's beneath them or too much inconvenience etc.
