Would you eat it?

I’ve just bought a cake for us from the local corner shop. It’s a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. About to cut into it but checked the side and the best before date is 2 weeks ago. Is it still safe to eat?

I'd be taking it back to the shop.

I don't think it's cream cheese frosting if it has Best before date rather than use by tbh.

I'd be taking it back to the shop.

Me too definately don't eat it and get your money back!

It won't do you any harm, but it won't taste nice.

Notsure94 · 14/02/2023 20:01

I'm sure it will be fine as it's full of sugar which is a preservative but it would probably taste a bit dry! Shop was wrong to sell it without marking it as out of date.

I would probably ask for a refund rather than eating it if it was use by. BBF I would be wary in case it was stale. Also I would double check it was not the manufacture date (I may have brought a bottle of orange due to customer service advising them they had a shelf of out of date orange juice, they pointed out it was the manufacture date).

If it's a long life factory type cake, rather than a fresh bakery type one it will be fine. But you'd be completely justified to take it back.
