Passport office nightmare for DD 10

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:33

Trying to renew my DD10’s passport. We sent her last passport and obviously she looks different- the first 3 pics we sent were rejected. We got it countersigned by someone who has known her since she was born. Then they asked for her birth certificate which we have sent by registered post.

Now they are saying that’s not enough either? Aibu to think what the hell else are we meant to send? They want more ID but we don’t have anything else as shes 10 and they her birth certificate 🤷🏻‍♀️

What do people send?!

You have to call them.

It will take ages. You will be on hold. But you have to speak to someone. They can check on the system and maybe its an error and they can sort it

Just thinking out loud - you've definitely applied for a child's passport?
I renewed my 10 year old's passport recently - admittedly it was fast track so it was on a paper form and then a face to face meeting - but all very simple and only needed to show his old passport and have his photo countersigned.
I have no idea what else I would send as he has no other form of ID!

dementedpixie · 14/02/2023 08:44

They don't need anything else. Think you must have some sort of idiot dealing with the application tbh. A renewal needs the old passport and a countersignature and nothing else. Can you raise a complaint about it?

It may have changed as I've now been asked for birth cert too and wasn't last year.

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:50

Thanks for the phone no- we have tried & we couldn’t get thru but will try again. The whole thing is batshit.

Definitely applied for a child’s one- did my 15 year olds too and that was back in under a week!!! It’s been 4 weeks with DD’s already!

Phone them. You usually get a number when you
make the application. It’s unusual to ask for other ID

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:47

@toomuchlaundry she’s only got 1 birth certificate!

They have two. The long one, with your name etc on it, and short one. Which have you sent.

Xol · 14/02/2023 08:53

Difficult to know what they will accept, but maybe a letter from the school confirming that the child in the photo is the same YoungMissColourofSpring who has been with them since the age of 5 (or whatever) and they checked her ID when she entered?

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:54

@LittleBearPad no, we have only got one- the long one. Never had a short one.

OP posts:
TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:55

@Xol yes that’s a good idea. Might ask the headteacher to do a letter

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:57

@dementedpixie thanks- might do an online query too

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 14/02/2023 08:58

They don't need a letter.
They need to work with all the correct information they already have!
Was it an online application or a paper one?

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 08:59

@dementedpixie an online one. The counter signature involved a few questions too so was quite detailed- am literally baffled by it all to be honest

This is slightly different but I just applied for my sons 1st passport. He's 14. They wanted birth certificates: his, mine, his dad's, both my parents and both dad's parents (although we didnt have his fathers). Plus marriage certificate of me and dad! Wildly OTT in my opinion! Everyone I spoke to thought that was very unusual.

TheClitterati · 14/02/2023 09:02

Use the PO. Check & send costs £16 & they take her photo, circle the documents & do all the paperwork. You need the email & phone details of your confirmer.

£16 includes photos & post. It's good value.

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 09:03

@TheClitterati we’ve done it all as it was a renewal. It’s not a problem with the form- it’s the proof of ID that’s the issue

You can get copy birth certificates if you have lost it. There should be two parts - one is a copy of the register with addresses and more details and the other is the actual birth certificate with names, date of birth and who registered them and where and that's about it. It could be that you sent the copy of the register but not the certificate itself.

TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 09:04

@Whatthebarnacles that’s crazy!! Most people wouldn’t have that level of documentation surely?

OP posts:
TheColourofspring · 14/02/2023 09:05

@Catspyjamas17 thanks- we definitely sent the long form birth cert as that’s all we have

You would only need your/your dhs birth certificates if you hadn't provided your passport numbers on the form.

Whatthebarnacles · 14/02/2023 09:08

@TheColourofspring I know! Luckily we actually did have everything except for my husband's dad's certificate as he's never been in his life. It was approved within a day of them receiving it all though so no panic in the end. I guess they're being more stringent than usual at the moment.

Catspyjamas17 · 14/02/2023 09:08

I wonder if they have not accepted the countersignatory for some reason, or the countersignatory filled their bits in incorrectly. Anyway, best to speak to them rather than speculate.

ittakes2 · 14/02/2023 09:09

was the person who countersigned on the appropriate list? ie accountant, teacher that sort of thing?

Whatthebarnacles · 14/02/2023 09:10

@dementedpixie makes sense. Neither of us have passports. I've never even been to an airport never mind abroad ha! Can't afford it, sadly.
