To think that desk treadmills are a dangerous con

If desk treadmills were a viable and safe option they would the answer to a huge problem I gave with bring too sedentary. Sedentary as job is partly deskbound and because am single parent of 8yo and can't leave him unattended to go for a walk/jog. I can walk around the football pitch/park when he's playing but otherwise it's tricky. If there was such a thing as a slimline, foldable desk treadmill, it would be an immense help. Anyone had any joy with these? They became more popular during the pandemic but I can't find many up to date reviews online. Posting here for 🚦

If you can't slowly walk on a treadmill you need to see a dr, unless you have a condition you're going to drip feed.
I loved my walking pad when I WFH, it's obviously safe to all able to use it

midgemadgemodge · 12/02/2023 20:03

I suspect that unlike a gym treadmill if you stop it stops

DottieUncBab · 12/02/2023 20:12

I don’t understand why you can’t go for walks with your child? When I was 9 I climbed Ben Nevis… unless they have a physical problem that means they can’t walk far I don’t understand why you can’t go for walks with them.

In my job I get administration shifts allocated to me so I can wfh on these. Had one since August roughly and lost two and a half stone. Done nothing else but walk on it. Before hand I was very sedentary and skinny but certainly not fit or strong. Really reccomend it!

WeCome1 · 12/02/2023 20:19

So do you move it out of the way when you aren’t using it? I can see is use it for meetings maybe, but I don’t think I could type and walk.

ForestLilac · 12/02/2023 20:35

You’ve all convinced me. I’m going to get one.

Any recommendations for something to put my laptop on as I don’t want to get a new table?

Chocolateonsticks · 12/02/2023 21:13

My post should say slim not skinny haha*
I got a second hand electric desk... there are tons on Amazon but not sure on the price but you could also get the same result from a high up desk :) best of luck you won't regret it!

redundantsoon · 12/02/2023 21:16

Ooooh, this has piqued my interest. Can anyone recommend any others please?

Littlewhitecat · 12/02/2023 21:46

I have a walking pad which cost £190 on Amazon and slides under the sofa in my home office when I'm not using it. It's not dangerous or a con and I use it an hour a day if I can't get out the house for a run or a walk. I use it when clearing emails, big conference calls when I don't need my camera on, or reading documents. I have voice control on my computer so if I need to make notes whilst reading I just dictate into my headset. I love it - but can't type whilst using it.

Ziggerty · 12/02/2023 21:55

Can anyone who had said they've bought one of amazon cheaper share a link?

Littlewhitecat · 12/02/2023 22:10

amzn.eu/d/83DJDJq this is mine but it's a bit more expensive than when I purchased it.

AndFinallyTonight · 12/02/2023 22:14

never had an issue with mine

Folicky · 12/02/2023 22:57

If you think it won’t work, how about a mini trampoline for when you watch tv?

BatshitBanshee · 12/02/2023 23:04

If you have a problem with texting and walking - as in, finding yourself having to stop to read a text/concentrate on typing the text - then these aren't for you.

If that's not an issue for you then I see no reason why you can't go off and research the right product for you without posting clickbait.

Ziggerty · 13/02/2023 07:50

Thank you @Littlewhitecat

Chocolateonsticks · 13/02/2023 09:05

Meant to add to my posts please get compression socks! They will save you a world of pain after days of doing it & ate good if you have varicose veins :)
