Dog friendly supermarket

Yesterday at about 11.45 I went to ALDI Hatfield and saw a dog in there.
It didn’t appear to be a service dog - no obvious jacket or peas stating so. The lady with the dog was very loud in praising the dog so wasn’t even trying to be discreet. The dog was spaniel size, looked like a Tibetan terrier to me. By the time I saw them they were at the checkout then a few minutes later they were walking around again as it looked like the lady had forgotten something.

AIBU to think the staff shouldn’t have allowed this. I love dogs but this was completely inappropriate.

For everyone saying "he isnt jumping up licking the food" how do you know? Are you watching? Is anyone? Dog allergies are serious there is no need for a dog to be there

Also my son is scared of dogs not all dogs he likes the ones he has been introduced to he even helped walk one the other day! But when confronted with a strange dog approching him recently he ran into the road I had to yank him out and force him to walk past the dog he was making distressed squeaking noises the dog was attracted to the noise the owner could see I was struggling and approached me WITH THE DOG to berate me for having a child who was scared of her fucking dog ds was dragging me back towards the busy road trying to get away I pointed out she wasn't being helpful asked her to back off she kept insisting her dog was fine I said DS isn't and he will attack BACK OFF PLEASE

Can you imagine this in the supermarket?

Allowing well behaved dogs and owners in lead to not well behaved dogs and their owners coming in

And no he has no issues with service dogs because they ignore him and don't approach him

Ive seen children grabbing food and taking a bite and parents who put that fruit/vegetable back when they notice it.
Dogs are at least on leads and more under control.
Obviously if they arent well behaved they shouldnt be there, but where I live dogs are allowed everywhere and the misbehaving ones are the minority, because people usually leave those at home.

If your child is so scared that he runs into the road then you should probably address that issue. Sounds pretty dangerous! Meeting/seeing them in shops all the time would maybe even have a positive effect. And would be way less dangerous than on the road.

The mass hysteria over the hygiene of dogs baffles me.

I have never caught worms from a dog (and as anyone can spot from my comments on another thread today, its entirely possible!)...

I have caught worms from a child.

I have never in fact had any infestation of parasites upon my body from a dog - I have caught nits and impetigo and ringworm from children.

I have witnessed children licking filth off the ground, sticking fingers down their own bumcracks (well down their pants) or in dirty nappies and smearing it everywhere and licking their fingers, ditto fingers up noses.

I have witnessed children pissing and shitting in public places including in shops.

I have found dirty nappies left in public places by parents.

I have seen kids handling fresh foods and putting them back (or parents taking them and putting them back) with obviously filthy hands.

Please tell me how dogs are dirtier again?

"have never caught worms from a dog (and as anyone can spot from my comments on another thread today, its entirely possible!)...

Threadworms won't blind you, Toxocara might.

And yes, I know the risk from a dog vs soil where dogs have been is low. But still.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Children have a legal right to be pretty much everywhere in society. Dogs do not.

"If your child is so scared that he runs into the road then you should probably address that issue. Sounds pretty dangerous! Meeting/seeing them in shops all the time would maybe even have a positive effect."

Random meetings with random dogs owned by random owners in an enclosed space where you can't see round the corners is not the place to desensitise a phobic child. (same with dog reactive dogs).

I love dogs but I'm bloody fed up of them suddenly being allowed everywhere.

Clearly you don't love dogs

I feel exactly the same, I don't want dogs in areas where there's food. I like them but choose not to have one yet they're basically everywhere & YABU if you don't welcome them it would seem.

Christ, I worked in a supermarket, you should be more worried about the state of the humans that go in them and work in them touching everything than a dog that just walks around minding it's own.... then there's the rats and mice that live in almost every supermarket warehouse!

"Clearly you don't love dogs"

Why? I love dogs (one of mine is snoring on the sofa beside me, the other has plonked herself at my feet) but I don't think mine should be allowed everywhere even though they are well behaved, gentle with children and pretty clean.
