Wibu to complain about eBay purchase

I bought a vintage dolls house on eBay. Seller listed it as 'very good vintage condition'. I could see a fault with the windows on the picture and that was fine, seller actually messaged to ask if that was ok and did I still want her to post it. I said yes because I'd taken that into account.

The house has, what I feel, significant flaws in that the roof is detaching from the walls, and the floor is detaching from the wall on one side, and one side of the house is detaching from the roof and back.

I don't have time to send it back, but AIBU to message the seller and tell her I'm not impressed with the quality - before I give a negative review? Or shall I just give the negative review and leave it at that? I guess I'm hoping she would offer a part refund or something. Seems unfair to give the negative review without seeing if she'll try to fix things first.

You can't leave negative reviews on eBay I don't think I sold lots last year and a couple didn't pay but I couldn't feedback

Bryonny84 · 11/02/2023 21:15

I'd message them and say you are disappointed in the condition and if you can't be bothered to send it back, send photos and ask if they will part refund.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 11/02/2023 21:17

Isn’t it the case that buyers can leave negative feedback but sellers can’t?

I’ve recently negotiated a partial refund with an eBay seller.

SilentAlarm · 11/02/2023 21:18

Surely you can’t expect any sort of refund if you’re not willing to return it?

SaturdayGiraffe · 11/02/2023 21:19

Take photos of the flaws and message the seller saying that you disagree with 'very good vintage condition'.
They may offer a refund, or argue the toss.
You then have a choice of simply leaving a negative review or starting a dispute via ebay based on 'not as described'.
IMO Vintage never means broken.

EasterIssland · 11/02/2023 21:27

I’d only suggest partial refund if they offer it. If I was the seller and someone complained about something I’d expect they’d return it if they’re not happy. Requesting partial refund to me sounds grabby

Dogscanteatonions · 11/02/2023 21:28

You would be very unreasonable to leave negative feedback without giving the seller a chance to put things right. A pp is wrong, sellers cannot leave negative feedback for buyers but buyers can leave negative feedback for sellers. This has been the case for years

BigotSpigot · 11/02/2023 21:30

Ask for a return and you will probably be offered a partial refund.

Is it meant to fold up for storage or something and that’s why it’s coming to bits?

If not I’d tell the seller what the issues are and ask her for her thoughts on this matter.

I’ve done that when goods have been mis-sold and generally get offered a discount if I wanted to keep the item.

Once I refused that discount and said I wanted to return at his expense as the item was not as described and I got a bigger discount.

You can leave negative feedback but I wouldn’t until I had tried to resolve the issues.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 11/02/2023 22:28

So the seller had deliberately not put up
pictures of the parts of the dolls house that are problematical?

nbcsw · 11/02/2023 23:58

You can't expect a refund unless you're going to return it.

elevenplusdilemma · 12/02/2023 08:42

Is it possible that it could have been damaged in transit? Courier companies throw boxes around a lot. Unless it was exceptionally well wrapped (bubble wrap several inches thick in a box where it literally couldn't move for padding), I would expect some damage to occur to a vintage product TBH.
I'd let the seller know and let her claim compensation from the courier. They may not pay if it wasn't adequately packed but that's not your problem.
