I've started a new Job, answering to the head of department in a housing company.

I was given some handover notes and told to get on with it basically. I really don't know what I'm doing (was a step up) and I'm so shy to ask for help.

Any ideas?

The only thing you can do is put your big girl pants on and ask the question.

Look at your tasks, make notes on how far you can get on your own and then compile a list of questions that you need to have answered in order to be able
to complete your work.

Did you tell the truth to get the job? As in, you didn't lie on your CV? If so, big girl pants are needed and just ask for help.

I agree, I'm afraid there's no easy way around this OP, you've just got to speak up and ask for help, otherwise you'll end up in trouble because you're drowning in stuff you don't know how to deal with.

Nope... for once! Haha

It's really because I'm not in revaluation contact with anyone

You need to speak up. Keeping quiet and making mistakes will be worse in the long run

SisterAct123 · 14/02/2023 18:36

Ok I'll try.

Where I work we honestly prefer people to speak up than sit and try do something they don't know.
Only way to learn, don't worry!

Ask for a review of how it’s gone so far and then ask if you can get clarification on some tasks to check if you’re doing ok with them.
puts the professional edge to it and not like you’re out of your depth.

if you are though, speak up

He's the head of department and really busy....
