I had an ectopic pregnancy that resulted in my Fallopian tube rupturing & bad internal bleeding. I had emergency surgery on the 28th Jan to remove the Fallopian tube. I was approximately 7 weeks pregnant.
I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend 5 days after surgery and again today, thinking it is pretty much impossible to get pregnant so soon after surgery! Everything I read on google says that you don’t ovulate until 14 days after surgery at the earliest.
Is this correct?
Has anyone here got pregnant so soon after surgery.
I don’t need telling how stupid I am. I can’t go through another experience like the one I went through recently and that is my worst fear 😧

I was told to use contraception when we started having sex again but I was also told to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks after the surgery as pregnancy hormones can take up to 3 weeks to leave the body.

My period took 6 weeks to return after my surgery in October. So it will have taken me approx 4 weeks to start ovulating again. I think there's quite a wide window of normal for ovulation to resume, up to 10-12 weeks from memory.

If you're worried, it might be worth speaking to a doctor? You could take the MAP after having sex today if they advised that it's safe to do so?

You do know you are fertile for around 5 days before you ovulate, don’t you?

Im sorry you had an ectopic - I’ve had two - and I’ve fallen pregnant really quickly each time.

It really isn't your worst fear is it? I mean stop the hyperbole. Seriously. You had a shit time, but clearly not that shit otherwise you wouldn't be shagging 5 days after emergency surgery.
I got pregnant 3 weeks after my ectopic pregnancy. SO it happens.

Yes you can. I had surgery for ectopic pregnancy on 1st August and had a faint positive pregnancy test on 31st August. Only had sex once between those dates. Convinced it was leftover hormone but it resulted in now 7 yo DC.

I meant another ectopic is my worst fear! Not falling pregnant, I do want that but am worried my risk of having another ectopic will be higher so soon after the first one.

I also dread a second ectopic. There's a 90% chance that any subsequent pregnancy won't be ectopic though so try not to worry too much (I know that's easier said than done). I asked the hospital what would happen if I conceived again before the 3 months wait, they said treatment would be the same but they might want to keep an extra eye on me but that it wouldn't necessarily mean a poor outcome. So again, try not to panic if you have conceived.

Also, if you conceive again you will be able to have an earlier scan at 6 weeks. So if you did have a second ectopic, there's a greater chance of less invasive treatment being successful compared to your last pregnancy. I was 7 weeks exactly when I started bleeding on the Saturday, EPU wouldn't see me. It worsened and they saw me on the Monday when I was 7+2, diagnosed the ectopic. I went to A&E on the Tuesday night and had the emergency surgery on the Wednesday afternoon at 7+4.

It was horrible but the knowledge I will have a 6 week scan with any future pregnancies has helped reassure me. There's some really good info on the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust site which has also helped. I was also able to speak to them afterwards, most of their volunteers have had ectopics too and it really helped to speak to someone else who has been through the same experience.
