To ask if you've tried Bumble BFF?

HaroldTheStallion · 08/02/2023 19:35

I've signed up for Bumble BFF and have paid for a week of premium usage. This is an app that let's you connect with other women for friendship (Bumble is a dating app - Bumble BFF works the same way but for friendship).I do have some friends but would like to make more, especially as most of my friends don't live locally.

There seems to be only one other woman in my town who's using it but we met up for coffee and she's really nice. We're going for a dog walk together tomorrow to see if our dogs can make friends too 😊. So it's going well but I just wish there were more women using it. Have you tried it? If so how were your experiences? Do you think it's strange to use an app to make friends or a good idea/worth a try?

I prefer Peanut. You don’t have to pay to talk to people.

Is that for friendships? I'd like to try something but if I mention Bumble to my Husband I don't think he would be happy lol 😅

Trisolaris · 10/02/2023 09:02

I used the free version and made a friend through it. Lots of conversations that went nowhere though.

HaroldTheStallion · 10/02/2023 18:13

I've looked at peanut and it seems to be very focused on being for mums. I'm not one so not sure it would be right for me. Is it very popular?

My paid week of premium on Bumble expired today and it seems to be functioning just fine. Kind of wish I hadn't paid as it didn't make much difference to what I was doing with it. Just wish there were more people on it locally.

@MyrrAgain - I would deffo like to hear genuine experiences of this app! I couldn't even tell this was an ad....clearly I haven't been on Mumsnet long enough lol

ForestLilac · 12/02/2023 22:54

@MyrrAgain and @WitheringTights000 its not an advert though.

surreygirl1987 · 12/02/2023 23:01

This is surely a marketing thread...

HaroldTheStallion · 13/02/2023 07:26

Definitely not an advert...but for those making the accusation thanks for bumping the thread for me!

So far I've made connections with:

  • a local woman around my age who's mostly on Bumble for dating but is trying BFF. We've met up twice and she's great - we have a lot in common. She has said she hasn't matched with anyone else locally either on BFF so we seem to be the only ones in our age range (around 50) in our town.
  • a woman who seems really nice but who lives in Glasgow and I live in England. I don't think we'll keep messaging as it seems pointless. And actually I have enough friends who don't live nearby, I'm looking for local ones.
  • another woman around my age who lives a 40 minute train ride away in the city nearest where I live. Haven't met up yet but might do. There seem to be a lot of users in this city.

@WitheringTights000 those are my genuine reflections. I promise you a big company like Bumble is not going to be paying someone like me with zero marketing experience and a ridiculous user name to do a poor job advertising their service.

Mumsnet if you're reading this please feel free to get in touch I will be very happy to provide any proof you like that I'm not advertising!

I think in this day and age making friends via an Internet app all seems rather normal. I think if friendships can come from this app then it's a great thing surely! Good luck with it all

HaroldTheStallion · 13/02/2023 09:18

Thank you so much @Euchariahere . One of my worries is about introducing my new Bumble friend to my other friends. I feel a bit embarrassed about it tbh - will people judge me for using the app?

OP posts:
Euchariahere · 13/02/2023 09:28

I really wouldn't judge you. I don't think most people would as I say everything is done via apps these days! You are probably overthinking it!

ForestLilac · 13/02/2023 13:58

Well it’s no different really to joining a walking group online and getting a friend through that. It’s all started online hasn’t it?

WitheringTights000 · 13/02/2023 14:59

I would like to try bumble bff but I feel like it would be no good where I live as I live in quite a small place.

I would love to live in London as I imagine it would be a great app to use there but I don't think my funds would stretch for it 😕

Oh do go away. By your reasoning, no one would ever be allowed to post about things they like or recommend on here. I am sure Bumble can afford a better advertising campaign than this.

Oh and if it helps one person to be less socially isolated then it's a good thing.

Go and find something else to be miserable about

MyrrAgain · 13/02/2023 18:10

Nope. I won't go anywhere thanks. This isn't even asking about AIBU.

HaroldTheStallion · 13/02/2023 18:12

@WitheringTights000 you might as well give it a try though just to see if there's anyone on there near you. You don't have to pay- I've realised the extra functionality you get with premium isn't that much, and you can match with and message people without it.

OP posts:
HaroldTheStallion · 13/02/2023 18:16

YABU = it's strange to use an app to make friends YANBU = a good idea/worth a try?

Happy now @MyrrAgain ? Of course not, you're just here to be nasty and miserable....which is fine by me actually as it bumps my thread.

@Cheeseandlobster thank you.

I care! So thanks again you charming sweet person who must have a very happy life and sunny outlook 😂

Plus as I keep saying you don't have to pay. But please please don't sign up yourself, it's definitely not for you!

OP posts:
FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/02/2023 18:27

How do you use it without paying? It's really expensive!

HaroldTheStallion · 13/02/2023 18:29

You just sign up for it @FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee and start using it. I had premium for a week and now that's expired I'm on the free service. The only difference I've noticed is that you can't see who has "liked" you unless you match with then. But you can still match with people and message them no problem.
