It's not something I would do, mine have all had baby curls at the end and it is a knotty nightmare but I just let it be a bit wild and condition the knots out on hairwash nights. I am a slack mother!

naturalblonde · 07/02/2008 19:37

YANBU. That's awful.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 07/02/2008 19:38

Unjustifiable imo.

luckylady74 · 07/02/2008 19:39

On a par with ear piercing!

Hulababy · 07/02/2008 19:39

I agree - I don;t think a 2yo should be havin her hair straighten at all, never mind chemically.

I have only just started letting my nearly 6yo have her hair straighten with my irons in the last month or so, and only then for special occasions.

flowerybeanbag · 07/02/2008 19:39

Oh that makes me

louii · 07/02/2008 19:39

Could she not just use GHD's?

colditz · 07/02/2008 19:40

My ds2 has knotty nightmare hair. I love it. He looks like a perambulatory ball of yellow cotton wool.

Are we having a Mumsnet day where we can say what we think?

I think Hair Straightening Mother is selfish and vain - and probably on the thicky side too.

Lulumama · 07/02/2008 19:40

ooh, seems a bit extreme.. DD has mad curly hair, and it can be a PITA, but thanks to the advice i got here, i manage it much better now.

more than the cost, what about the damage?? and if she starts at 2, what will her hair be like at 5 or 10

am really surprised a hairdresser would do such a procedure on such a young child

surely their skin is still so much more sensitive. she could have got chemical burns !

MrsMattie · 07/02/2008 19:41

Barmy.

CarGirl · 07/02/2008 19:41

TBH you just stick it in bunches or plaits and redo when it looks desperate!

Habbibu · 07/02/2008 19:41

That just seems daft. My niece (2.5) has a wild mop of blond curls which are lovely - sister uses a leave-in conditioner if she wants them to look a bit less untamed. Poor niece is constantly asked for a curl by strangers! (She's taken to giving me one down the phone, though, which is sweet).

Lulumama · 07/02/2008 19:41

agree re bristle brush, i use a mason and pearson one, that is about 25 years old, and it makes her hair gleam

KaySamuels · 07/02/2008 19:41

Poor wee thing she is only 2, what is she gonna do as she gets older!

YANBU - judge away!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 07/02/2008 19:41

BTW milliec, what did you say to the mum?

cinnamontam · 07/02/2008 19:43

totally wrong

What's wrong with ear piercing Luckylady74?

eandh · 07/02/2008 19:43

my dd1 (3.5) has curly hair (not over curly but enough to make hair brush times a nightmare) I do let her occasionally have it straightened with my straightners but not that often.

I find good conditioner after a shampoo wash and some leave in conditioner sprayed in and a brush with good quality brush sorts alot of the problems out

Oh, I think ear piercing on children is horrid, but not really the issue. The hair thing is a bit crazy, but we dont know how bad her hair is? I mean, Im presuming it wasnt just a few waves in her hair? It isnt something I would ever do, as I think its setting the wrong type of image for a child, and also the chemical burns etc.

Lulumama · 07/02/2008 19:47

i use normal conditioner diluted in water and in a spray bottle ..

Habbibu · 07/02/2008 19:48

I think my sister uses a spray on leave-in conditioner, like eandh mentioned. Would that be easier?

CarGirl · 07/02/2008 19:49

getting dd to agree to hair washing - lol!!!

there is no agreement in this house lots of husterical screaming etc I just do it!!!! If it's really knotty you could put lots of conditioner on dry hair and then rinse it off it will help get knots out
