Sons nursery

My son is 9mo he goes to nursery on the days I work. I explained yesterday that he has had loose stools but doctor has said he's fine, caused by change of diet and teething and having the cold they said it was fine at drop off. When his dad picked him up they have told him he can't come in for 48h after last loose stool? He's absolutely fine I explained he's been having them for the last few days so can't see them leaving in 48hr. He has no fever, eating as normal and has no sickness. Is this normal procedure for just loose stools accompanied by no sickness or fever ?

In short yes.

My son had terrible poos when teething and later some tummy issues caused by his allergy.

Talk to them again and say he's been seen by the doctor to rule out infectious diseases.

It’s normal. Sickness and diarrhea are an automatic 48 hour rule.

Yes

Normal procedure, and it can get very frustrating for parents and the staff.

Yes - 48 hour rule for sickness and loose poo as bugs spread like wildfire in places like nurseries.

Nursery basically have you over a barrel with stuff like this. If they deem them not to be well enough then they can refuse to take them and still make you pay for it. Ours was a nightmare during lockdown as we're both key workers.

It's 48 hours AFTER the last occurance. Schools also have this rule so you need to get used to it.

They can exclude for Diarrhoea, but Diarrhoea is 3 or more loose poos in a 24 hour period. So they shouldn't be excluding for one loose poo unless the child also has other symptoms.

Yes I know that. I just thought babies bowel movements are extremely different to a toddler or someone in primary school. with no other side affects I thought it was a bit extreme but it seems to be pretty common. So I'll no for next time 😊

As a nursery nurse, I can tell you it's not 'just a 48 hour rule'. It is usually policy that if a child has 3 loose stools within 1 to 2 hours, it could be some kind of infection, so therefore, to rule out passing a sickness and diarrhoea bug (or something as such) around, a '48-hour-stay-at-home-rule' is used. This does include anymore loose stools at home, as its a 48 hour from the last occurrence. Parents should (to an extent) be able to tell the difference between loose and diarrhoea-like stool.
