NHS trust taking back one day pay for the 19 September 2022 Bank Holiday

Ok, so I work in a community team. Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm. We were off on 19/9/22 the Queen funeral a bank holiday. The building was closed no staff in. No ability to come into work and not instructed to make any other arrangement. This affects all staff eg admin, nurses, OT, HCA

We all obviously presumed it was a bank holiday. Today we received an email, the trust has made a mistake, and won’t pay and we owe 1 day pay for that Bank Holiday off. A deduction will be made of one day pay for the bank holiday.

Now I understand that Bank holiday payment are at employer discretion and there is no automatic entitlement to a paid day off, however my contention is we weren’t offered an alternative option eg take laptop home and work . Now 4 month later we are informed they’ll take back the overpayment

obviously I’ll contact my union for advice
Can I ask other NHS workers did your trust pay 19/9/22 as a bank holiday?

NHS England declared it a bank holiday from what I remember, GP practices (pharmacies etc. were closed) and on out of hours cover arrangements.

I was community at time and we had an extra days leave added to our allowance

Definitely speak to your union rep. They should be able to take this up collectively with the Trust.

Bank Holiday at our trust. I work in a community team and we had it rostered off without even being asked about it (our admin is ahead of the game as hell!)

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it, I will email union. What a carry on!
plus I’ll obviously ask what’s their plans for the coronation BH, paid or unpaid
Bemused 9% think IABU. Presumably all that clapping and my vocation should be enough remuneration for anyone without quibbles over a day pay
