School run and covid

nurseynursery · 07/02/2023 15:22

So I've tested positive for covid, not feeling very well at all but can still function to a degree. Do I still take my kids to school? I'm assuming I do and just stay away from people if I can. What's everyone else's thoughts? AIBU to do this?

TinaYouFatLard · 07/02/2023 15:26

Yes, take them to school.

Frosty1000 · 07/02/2023 15:30

Definitely take to school, maybe keep away from anyone else or wear a mask.

Hope you are better soon.

ShiverOfSharks · 07/02/2023 15:34

Yeah, I would. Or DH would, or if I really wasn't feeling up to the walk a friend would probably pick them up for me. Do you have anybody who might be able to do that?

rainyalan · 07/02/2023 15:34

Ask school if you can drop them off 10-15 mins later and pick up earlier to avoid ppl.

Fossie · 07/02/2023 15:59

There’s no restrictions anymore. Not only will there be kids in school with Covid, there will also be teachers.

MelchiorsMistress · 07/02/2023 16:00

Yes take your kids to school. They’ve already missed enough because of Covid.

Lcb123 · 07/02/2023 16:01

Yes just stay away from others-as I hope anyone whose ill would do!

SlashBeef · 07/02/2023 16:02

Of course you take them to school

Mariposista · 07/02/2023 16:38

Given that you are under no obligation to test (unless your workplace demands this, in which case 'rules' only apply at work), absolutely you should be meeting your children's basic needs, including ensuring they are dropped off and picked up from school safely.

Beezknees · 07/02/2023 16:41

Nobody I know is even testing any more. Just go about your business as normal.

SavoirFlair · 07/02/2023 16:43

All this “no obligation to test” stuff just shows how child-like a lot of people are. They have to be told by the Government how to behave, or else it’s a free for all.

@nurseynursery Wear a mask.

Do it not because it’s a “muzzle” or an “imposition” but because it’s what decent people do in society to avoid spreading an illness that is proven to have varying, sometimes painful and damaging effects in people:

but by all means take your child to school. You’re outside, you will hopefully be wearing a mask.

Mamadothehump · 07/02/2023 16:44

Are you still in 2020? Of course you take them to school if you are well enough! If you're not well enough, ask someone to help out. Like you would have if you were unwell in 2019!

SavoirFlair · 07/02/2023 16:45

Ah. The bliss of ignorance.

Just go about your business as normal

It should be normal to wear a mask if you have a known infection that can cause debilitating side effects in a person. This is to stop the transmission, to do your bit for society.

If you don’t have a positive test, then sure folk can go about as normal if they’re comfortable with the risk and they’re not immunocompromised

Folk can go about as normal whether they test positive or not. You don't make the laws.

megletthesecond · 07/02/2023 17:58

Take them to school. Just keep away from people and in the fresh air.
I still test and wear masks. Got it for the first time two weeks ago and just got supermarket deliveries for a week. I went for lots of walks.

You do.realise that people are expected to.go to.work and children are expected to.go.to.school(( if they feel well enough) if they are covid positive or not?
so there really is no.point in testing because p people are expected to get on with things ,because in some cases they don't get paid 🙄

Tinkerbyebye · 07/02/2023 18:12

@nurseynursery you could try looking on the Gov.uk website

that states that whilst there are no formal restrictions now

You should:

try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days
avoiding meeting people at higher risk from COVID-19 for 10 days, especially if their immune system means they’re at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, even if they’ve had a COVID-19 vaccine
This starts from the day after you did the test.

just saying, as you won’t know who is compromised, and at least wear a mask and stay away from everyone, although chances are your kid has it and is now spreading it

Schools expect pupils in wether they are covid positive or not assuming they are well.enough
and Employers also expect .Employee,s in ( sometimes even if they are not really well.enough ) because in the real.world not everyone has a work from home jobs where they can cosily isolate themselves .

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 07/02/2023 18:21

Definitely take them but behave as you (hopefully!) always have with something potentially contagious and keep your distance from other people where possible.

Yes, they can - but those of us with a conscience would take steps to minimise the risk to others.
Not being able to see this says more about you than you think 😊

Yeah, yeah. Heard this non stop for 3 years. Yawn.

Chocolation · 07/02/2023 21:45

My children’s school asked me to wear a mask when picking up & dropping the kids off when I recently had Covid

I know two people who've tested positive today, and my partner tested (negative) because he was with them Saturday and he's meant to be in the office tomorrow.

People are still testing.

I'm sure some people are. I said nobody I KNOW is testing.
