To go to minor injuries

Posting here for traffic...

I can't bend my right knee.... like literally when I do it feels like the knee bone is rubbing against something
I'm limping about like a weirdo, and by the time I got home from work yesterday I couldn't even bend it enough to get my boot off
When I wake up it's fine, but as soon as I start waking the pain starts
I've had it for about a week out of nowhere
I know it's not a and e worthy, but was thinking about a minor injuries unit? Can I just limp up?

Thanks for reading!

I’d go but don’t tell them you’ve had the pain for a week. My local minor injuries told me I had to go to gp as I’d had pain for over a week. Call them rather than just rock up as they may have appointments now

Why don’t you go to GP? They can book you in for any investigations you need, often the same day

I can't get an appointment for 5 weeks.
I do have an appointment for blood tests on Thurs morning, so may ask her advice.

Wow I’d ring 111 then. They’ll either find you a gp appt or book you in elsewhere

Yep this is a GP one. GP can request an X-ray or ultrasound, put you on the correct pathway, medication etc. You don't need a face to face appointment for them to request imaging investigations. I work within radiology and most patients get sent for xray the same week as speaking with their GP/nurse practitioners.

You've not injured it. Rightly so you don't want to go to A&E but If everyone started going to Minor Injuries for non injuries they'll up in the mess that A&E's are in.

So I can ring the gp and get the ball rolling? Fab thanks

I called 111 for a similar thing last week (I had fallen & hurt my knee 10 days prior and was still getting intermittent pain). It didn't seem right to go to A&E for something I'd done over a week ago. 111 eventually sent a GP referral through & said to call the surgery for an appointment. GP said no point seeing me, just go to A&E as I'd need some sort of scan. No referral letter, just turn up and wait. I could have just done that in the first place! So maybe it depends on your GP...

Mabelface · 07/02/2023 08:19

I'd rock up to minor injuries that. Could be an infection, partial dislocation etc but no one will know until you've seen someone. They can send you through for x-rays

Dwellingbuyingdilemma · 07/02/2023 08:21

Is present to minor injuries or a&e with that. A completely immobile joint needs assessing asap. Chances are your GP would just send you to a&e for an x-ray anyway.

Masterblasterjammin · 07/02/2023 08:23

It sounds appropriate for minor injuries, not for A&E. Also don’t lie about the length of time you’ve had the problem for, I see people suggesting that on here all the time. It’s important to be as accurate as possible about it, to help the clinician help you.

MuggleMe · 07/02/2023 09:02

I was in minor injuries the other week and half could have been a gp appt, I think since you might need a scan you might as well go there.

It may be more efficient to try a physio or sports therapist - some of them are qualified to refer for x-rays and to be honest are probably more knowledgeable about knees than a gp!

Unfortunately lack of funds don't run to this
