Just that really. Looks perfect. What do you reckon? Should I be cautious and bin it? Date was October 21

I'd eat it and I'd feed it to my family. In fact I do. All the time. I have no idea how long some stuff has been in my freezer(s)! I just come across it and heat it up!

This would give me anxiety 😲 I put labels on with contents and date frozen.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 06/02/2023 19:05

I'd heat it up and taste it first, I wouldn't bin it without checking it still tasted ok.

Some of you are Hmm on food waste.

The stirfry veg dated late 2019 other week was fine by the time it was heated up. Not its prettiest, but perfectly edible.
It will have slipped a bit over, then as none of the rest of the family like stirfry, it will have been forgotten about and buried through 2020/21 when I didn't get chance to cook solo meals and recently re-emerged.

Freezer time is about texture rather than safety.

It's only the quality of the food that might deteriorate. It is perfectly safe to eat as long as your freezer works.

I just can't worry about food frozen in a freezer.

I have plenty of other things in my life giving me anxiety

Meat = 3 months.

I'd risk 6 for an adult but not 21.

LBOCS2 · 06/02/2023 22:55

Wow. I treat my freezer as a cryogenic time capsule; stuff goes in there and stays there until we fancy it however many years later. The only reason there isn't anything older than my offspring in there is that we moved when they were 6 and 3 respectively.

I would 100% have eaten it and fed it to both DDs.

Hickorydickorydockery · 06/02/2023 23:02

I just Chuck food in the freezer ,never date it and use it when I have run out of food. Could be 1yr or 2 yrs old …we are all alive 😊

Snugglemonkey · 06/02/2023 23:07

I would defrost it and see what it was like. Bacteria will not be an issue, but does it taste nice? Is the texture ok? You will know if it is not for eating.

Their money, their food, their choice 🤷
