Cooking up chicken goujons and placing them in a freezer bag. Then collecting teenage daughter from school, going on the bus and then eating said goujons on the way home.
Lighthearted thread but saw this exact thing the other day and wondered if other parents did it.

I said it was lighthearted, just surprised me that's all!

You've forgotten to say why it surprised you?

WeCome1 · 05/02/2023 16:13

I don’t think you’re meant to eat on our buses, but yours might not have that rule.

I’m too stingy/lazy to cook chicken goujons as a snack, but if it suits you?

Bellalalala · 05/02/2023 16:15

What’s surprising about it?

Delatron · 05/02/2023 16:17

I don’t understand. Someone has gone to collect their teenager from school but not in a car? Why can’t the teenager get the bus alone? Surely the adult is getting the bus to school and back again to ‘collect a teenager’. I know not the point of the thread but that part flummoxes me more!

Is the parent bringing the goujons? That’s fine - it’s a good filling protein snack. Better than crisps. But if the teenager is walking around all day with chicken goujons then that’s a bit dodge for food poisoning.

Or did she fry them off?

Or "plate them up".

RealeyesRealizeReallies · 05/02/2023 16:26

I once saw someone having a drink on the bus. I just wondered whether it was the done thing?!

Only if it’s can of G&T, only acceptable drink on a bus. I like to bring a tall glass, an ice cube bucket with tongs, and some lemon slices. Would only bring the full bottle of gin and tonic water if it was a long train journey.

Cracklingfire1 · 05/02/2023 19:01

But what surprised you about it? You've not made that bit clear? How do you know when the goujons were prepared?. If I saw a stranger get on the bus with a teen, I'd probably come to the conclusion the goujons had been made and maybe kid had forgotten to take them for lunch and was hungry.

You can't possibly know the story....

Eating when you are hungry.... yes, I'd say that's the done thing in general.

🤣

I once saw a woman eating a yogurt on a train.

.. and I was that woman!

takes bow

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/02/2023 19:04

You mean because it’s warm?? I don’t think breaded chicken is all that stinky?

parcelpuzzle · 05/02/2023 19:11

So she was eating her lunch?

When did we become so obsessed with social norms that one would be posted about on Mumsnet to establish if their lunch was acceptable to eat or as you put it "the done thing"

Itcouldhappenabishop · 05/02/2023 19:18

As long as it was definitely goujons and not nuggets then it's fine.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 05/02/2023 19:22

Its not something I'd do but only because my teenagers would be mortified enough by me even getting the bus home with them from school let alone getting a freezer bag full of chicken goujons out in front of their school mates 😂

Nevermind31 · 05/02/2023 19:24

Is it free range organic chicken?
